I'm a camera assistant who's recently started data wrangling using a pc laptop (2GHz Intel core duo CPU, 2G ram, running XP) to do the copying process. I have redcine installed and would like to use it as a cross check for making sure I've got all the footage that's been shot.

I can import the folders from the hard drive, see the thumbnail clips in the bin, select a clip and play it (as I can see the timecode rolling) but the viewing window is grey (no picture) as is the thumbnails. I'm assuming that I'm lacking a codec of some description but am not sure what it could be, quicktime doesnt work with it obviously. I also have no other editing software ie CS4 so cant use Red Adobe CS4 installer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's funny you say that, after posting I checked and looks like an onboard card, Mobile Intell 965 Express Chipset (I think thats it). I'm gonna test it on my home pc which shouldnt have any hardware benchmark problems (gamers box ;) ). This should give me the answers I'm looking for. cheers for the feedback.

Desktop resolution?

Desktop resolution?

Try changing the desktop resolution, on my brothers computer at 1024x768 REDCINE does not work well, but at 1280x1024 it works, so if you monitor goes higher try different bpp and resolutions to see if that helps...? You right click on the desktop background to get the menu that lets you change the Windows resolution used, both pixels and bpp for colors.

Onboard graphics doesn't work with Apple's Color either…

Be aware that LCD monitor have only one good resolution: the native one,

Not quite, if you run 1600x1200 then 800x600 is full resolution since it is div 2. Likewise 1280x960 to 640x480 and so on.

Under DOS LCD monotors may sync to more modes than under Windows, and the results may not look that bad, at least you get some kind of image if it syncs to non-optimised modes.
