Hi,
I'm a big fan of David Fincher (who isn't?) and love his reverse-key lighting approach to shooting. I really want to try and emulate his style on movies like ZODIAC and was wondering if anyone had used noise reduction on the Red One Mx? And if so, which program and what were the results like? Thanks!

Neat Video is your friend! Just make sure to shoot with the lowest amount of compression you can in order to preserve the noise (compression just turns it into mush which is harder to remove).

+1 Neat Video. Best bang for buck in noise reduction, if you take the time to read the manual and use all its features.

I use Magic Bullet Denoiser 2 but it crashes sometimes.I have not denoised any R1 footage yet, but I know the Bit Rate the more the footage can be denoised!

Thanks a lot guys, and RIP Harris Savides, 55 is far too young :( I'll definitely check out Neat Video, I was under the assumption it was only for 1080p, but the pro version says 4K so that's great.

I've only had the R1Mx for a week or so, and am doing lowlight tests with it, so if anyone has any advice for exposure methods in lowlight, especially with a view to using noise reduction, I'd be most grateful. Here's the Fincher/DiCaprio screen test which I believe was shot at ISO 2000 with a T1.3 lens, does anyone know if there was noise redction applied?

Well, keep the camera as cool as your can (warmer sensors produce more noise), black shade...and make sure you shoot a solid color for a noise reference...beware of using walls, because if there's any texture on the wall it might be pegged as noise by your noise reduction tool and some surfaces will look blurry that ought to have texture. Same thing with skin, unless you're intentionally going for an airbrushed effect. ;)
