Using lighter, 95wh V-Mount vs. heavier, 160wh V-Mounts

I'm going to be a new Red owner soon. I put the deposit down for Raven, but I might just splurge and get the Weapon MG.

Lately, I've been running my camera on a jib quite a bit on my indie / low budget projects. This makes for really quick camera setup and allows for interesting movement on the fly. The big drawback is that the camera needs to be kept fairly light.

I noticed that the Global Media Pro 95wh V-Mounts are only 1.57 lbs., about the same weight as a Redvolt XL. Phil Holland mentioned that he's getting about 80 to 90 minutes on his Weapon using Redvolt XL which is 89wh.

Any of you guys using lighter, 95wh batteries? Does having to swap batteries every 1 1/2 hours or so become a serious pain?

Obviously, the 160wh GMP V-Mounts would be more production friendly, but that's very close to 1 lbs heavier which would affect my jib rig.

So yeah, seeing if any of you guys run the lighter, lower wh batteries; and if the weight loss is worth the set time loss.

Pros and Cons?

Thanks

That's a good suggestion Bob, thanks.

I guess my question is: Are most of you using larger V-Mount Bricks? Or do any of you guys use RedVolt XL or smaller sized batteries exclusively? Or is it a mix of both depending on the rig?

Bigger battery, and a better Jib!

I use Dionic HC-X batteries which are 120W I believe. They are perfect for me because they give about 1:30-3:00 depending on how many accessories I'm powering.

If you are running a camera build with few accessories then you should be fine with 95W batteries. Just make sure you have a really good charger or enough batteries that power never becomes an issue.

Alternatively, you could look into Pag-Link batteries. Because they can stack onto each other, you have more flexibility with weight and with output.

Ill probably be buying those after my Dionic's die because I'm not digging Anton Bauer's new battery design.
