Hey guys!
I wanted to share an experiment I'm currently doing.
Too show of myself as a director and DoP I often use Instagram to uploads nice looking images of projects I'm working on.
For a few months I've only been doing images with a ratio of 3:2 - meaning white borders are always added to make it look nice.
Lately I've been thinking about the video function on Instagram. Lots of people use Instagram, and a lot of people spend more time there than on Facebook and Twitter.
What I wanted to do was use the valuable 15 seconds and be able to market stuff I'm doing and upcoming projects using, nice looking, higher quality videos.
To make it a bit slicker, make it stand out I decided to do a 3x2 video, which would look nice together with all my current images.
The result of my first try, can be seen here: http://instagram.com/p/gq7aLijTQU/ I think it looks really good in the feed!
For those of you who liked it and want to attempt doing something like this (most of you probably know how to already, but if not, here is a quick walkthrough):
Start by opening photoshop, create a 640x640 document. Decide what ratio you want add white borders where you don't want the video. Save it as a png.
Now open you NLE. Create a 640x640 sequence. What I did was create a 25FPS one. I just selected what video I wanted, added the PNG and then made sure it looked nice by moving and rescaling the video. (Remember, no more than 15 seconds of video)
I exported as QuickTime H264 and then sent it by e-mail to myself, opened it on my iPhone, saved it and then posted.
It's a bit of work, but it's a bit fun as well
I hope someone will find some use for this!
