  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Using Canon Lenses with EPIC

The last couple of weeks shooting with Red's Canon mount have been fantastic. The mount is rock solid. It was a breeze to swap back-and-forth between the PL and Canon mount in the field. Four star screws.

I primarily used the L Series 24-70mm @ 2.8 with a geared ring and zoom stick mounted on the barrel for snap zooms. The lens worked perfectly once it loosened up, the rig remained light, and the edge-to-edge resolution and minimal breathing was impressive. I also used the 50mm 1.2 on several occasions. Beautiful images and it really saved my butt when I needed to throw everything in the background out of focus. The ability to see and change Canon lens settings on the Red touchscreen is great.

Any experiences with the Canon 35mm f1.4L?

Probably my favorite Canon lens. It is one of the best at 1.4 (wide open) the other is the 24 1.4L, but the 35 seems better. I've been testing the Canon 50's and I can't find one that looks good wide open.

I do wildlife work and find the new 70-200 f2.8 L IS II USM sharper with better contrast than the 70-200 f2.8 L IS USM lens. The bokeh is nice too. I used to be primarily a still photographer before moving into filming. So the review of old 70-200 f2.8 L IS USM has primarily still images http://www.indiawilds.com/diary/canon-ef-70-200-f2-8-l-is-usm/

I am now using the new version 70-200 f2.8 L IS II USM. It works very well with TCs. Didn't find any problem with breathing. For focal lengths longer than 400mm I use the 400f2.8 IS USM with or without TCs.

I like my Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 L USM lens as well. I have the 24-105 f4 L IS USM as well, however I prefer the EF 24-70 f2.8 L USM.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
