I mostly shoot raw (when you record the fan goes down) and I know there is an option to lower the fan speed/noise, but when you record with the Field Recorder do you use audio? And If you do does the noise of the fan hurt the quality of the Mic? Btw new to the website but love the community, I saved up for a half a year working to get this wonderful camera and love it!

That all depends where your mic is located. The samurai can use the Scarlets Audio fed through the SDI.

Okay, also is there a way when you hit record on the Atomos it turns the fan off the RED? I take it if we are using a boom or a lav and we are not too close to the camera it won't pick up the fan noise?

You can put the camera in external record only mode and it will trigger external recorders via a flag on HDSDI when you start/stop record. In this mode the camera behaves just as if you are recording onto SSD, the fans go down, the record indictors light up, etc.

So when you do that the fans will go down like if you where recording to my SSD, fantastic!! Thank you kind sir!!!

Yes, if the record is initiated by the camera (and the external recorder uses the HDSDI flag to start/stop recording).

AND-
you can go into the menu system and customize the fan speeds for Standby vs REC. I have set mine to 70% standby/37% rec which has been quiet enough for interviews with lavalier mikes. Might still PU fan if recording via on-camera mike at these settings. You can manually knock the fan down to 25% during recording, tho Loooong takes might force the camera to override (which it will do at a certain temp - so no danger of cooking the innards).
