  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Using a clutch, what else do I need to quickly swap to using a head?

So I am sure it is addressed somewhere, but being fuzzy brained... I can not seem to sort it out.

So aside from what comes with a Clutch, what else do I need to buy to be able to swap to a fluid head and be able to balance the Epic on it? A simple bolt on Arri style dovetail? Or? I have an O'Connor 515 head for what it matters.

As always, thank you,

Scott

Well I see two options-
1- use your entire clutch on the tripod. In this case all you need is an arri style dovetail, though certainly one longer than comes with the clutch.
2- minimize what moves onto the tripod. In this case you'd use a Red Quick Release Platform ( dovetail version is probably a better option) and quick release the camera itself off the clutch and onto sticks.

Each of these has its pros and cons, especially depending on what type of mattebox/follow focus support you use.

Ahhhhh... I had thought there was a quick (read : cheap) solution to get it quickly on. So essentially I need another $1000 to be able to snap it off the Clutch and onto a head quickly.

Thank you for the assist.

Dovetail, and Quick Release Dovetail platform. About $800 total.

EDIT: Actually, I think the CLUTCH comes with a short dovetail, so all you would need is the Quick Release Dovetail Platform.... unless you want more counter-balance ability, in which case you'd want the longer dovetail which is about $100 and VERY worth it.
