I am considering using 16mm PL mount wide angle lenses to get a wider field of view shooting 2k for slow motion. Does anyone have experience or recommendations for good 16mm wide angle lenses to use on the RED. Trying to match with a Super Speed Set. Ultra wide with some distortion is acceptable.

Thanks.

shooting wide angle at 2K use a 16mm format lens, not a 35mm lens.
Angenieux and Kinoptik have 5.7mm wide angles lenses.
Test and go through some of the post process before actual shoot so you will not have surprises later.

The Angenieux 5.9 and the Kinoptik 5.7 are decades-old designs that leave a lot to be desired. They certainly don't come close to matching to Superspeeds.

Don't know whether you wish to rent or purchase. Some lenses have been discontinued but are excellent glass.

Available for rent from Abel but discontinued for sale:

Century 6mm T1.9
Optex 8mm T1.9
Optex 5.5mm T1.9
Optex 4mm T1.9

Lenses available for purchase or rental:

Optar Illumina 8mm T1.3
Elite 7mm (can't recall their T-stops)
Elite 5mm
Elite 4.5mm

The bargain is the Belarus Peleng 8mm. You can get it in PL mount from eBay for like $450 or less in Nikon mount and it also covers 3k and 4k. In 2k it is a nice wide angle rather than the fisheye that it is in 4k. Not as fast as the Elites that Mitch has for sale, though.

The wide angle S16mm lens for professionals is the Illumina 8mm T1.3 lens (formerly known as Optar Illumina).

This lens and the rest of the Series (9mm,12mm,16mm,25mm,50mm) are all T1.3 and are immediately available from Luma Tech, Florida or from us.

The Peleng lenses are some of the best lenses money can buy. I have one for Nikon and it's been an incredible tool for making panoramic shots and HDRI maps. It shouldn't disappoint with sharpness and color rendition.

What is the cost of the 8mm T1.3?

Out of interest, whats the best option if I were to go after one of these Pelengs? I see a bunch on Ebay in Nikon or PL mount, and a few websites carrying them, but which is he best way to go?
