Do you get any kind of support WHATSOEVER from the Red Company if you buy a used Red-One?

I most definitely want a RED-One, but I may not be able to afford a new one with all the accessories I'll need to make it fit my requirements. I know occasionally a used one comes on the market, but I've always been a little nervous about putting out THAT kind of money with absolutely NO support from Red, which is what I've been told will happen. And, also that I'd never be allowed any firmware updates, etc, etc.

I'd appreciate any input, feedback, or comments on this, especially from someone at Red itself.

Thanks.

If things are out of warranty, you will have to pay for repairs.

But they will support you, and you will get firmware updates just as long as you do the ownership transfer properly.

Even when I only rented, I could call from set and get answers from a very smart and knowledgeable person at the end of the line - regardless of the hour of day or night.

Well, thanks fellas. That's very good to know. It was just too scary otherwise. Paying for repairs does not bother me. Lack of customer help, concern, and support, does.

May I ask, so I don't make any mistakes; how do I DO "the ownership transfer properly" ?? I mean, what's involved, etc. ??

And, what would Firmware Updates on a used camera cost ??

How long is the warranty on a brand new RED-One anyway?

Lastly, if/when I find a "used" camera I want, should I check with RED "before" buying any used RED-One so they can check details with the owner, condition of camera, etc, etc.??

Thanks again.

1. Have the owner of record contact their BOMB SQUAD rep to start the process.

2. Firmware updates are free.

3. See www.red.com/terms for warranty info.

4. We cannot give out information on a camera to someone who does not own it or is an authorized contact on that account. Privacy protection and all...

"BOMB SQUAD rep"?? Sorry for my ignorance.

Would RED be willing to check out the camera for ME before I put out all that money, especially considering I've never owned one before?

Thanks.

6c. Red Re-Certified Product Warranty – All Electronic Products (e.g. Red One, Red LCD, Red Pro LCD, Red EVF) that are not possessed by the original Buyer may be sent to an Authorized Red Service Center for an evaluation fee of $100. Red will provide a quotation for the re-certification of the product to existing Red product specifications at time of repair. The Customer is responsible for all costs associated with such re-certification, such as troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, test, calibration, and shipping costs. The evaluation fee will be applied to the cost of the re-certification if the cost of the re-certification is greater than the evaluation fee. Upon completion of re-certification, customer may be offered a Red Re-Certified Product Warranty for an additional cost.

“Customer” is defined as an entity who obtained Red product by other means than directly from Red. Product re-certification is only available to a Customer and is limited to a one re-certification per Customer upon a change of ownership. As part of the process, RED will register the Product to the new Customer.

A Red Re-Certified Product Warranty is valid for a period of ninety (90) days for the camera and camera accessories after the warranty is accepted by the Customer. Red Re-Certified Product Warranty is not available for Digital Media and Batteries.

6d. Non-Warranty Repair – Product that no longer qualifies for Warranty Repair may be sent to an Authorized Red Service Center for an evaluation fee of $100. Red will provide a quotation for the repair of the product. The Customer is responsible for all costs associated with such refurbishment, such as troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, test, calibration, and shipping costs. The evaluation fee will be applied to the cost of the refurbishment if the cost of the refurbishment is greater than the evaluation fee. Any repaired or replaced product shall be warranted for ninety (90) days after it is received by Buyer. Only the components that were repaired or replaced will be eligible for the 90-day period. Any parts replaced by Red during non-warranty repair are the property of Red and will not be returned to Buyer.

George,

the purchased of a professional piece of equipment such as a Red One camera system, should take serious consideration before been purchased used, and if you can you should always try and buy new directly form Red, obviously I understand the fact the currently Red does not offer MX upgrade on new cameras till all current owners had a chance on upgrading theirs, but Red is moving very fast on it, and it will not be too long before you can buy new Red One with MX sensor at the Red Store.

If you are however in a need of the camera now, then I understand and I have already assisted the sales and purchases true a Lease to Purchase option agreement, for several Red Owners because of their needs for an MXed camera now.

It is important that you don't buy from any one that does not have a record that you can see for your self and or has references that are satisfactory to you, the assistance of the owner of record is imperative and needs to be specific on your agreement at time of Leasing/Purchasing, as Red will not offer you directly any assistance till the camera has been placed in your name, for which you would also have to pay a fee, any assistance that needs to be provided to the camera, for upgrades and or services of any kind, will require the authorization of the owner of record, so for this is very important that you buy from some one that you can come o trust, and guarantees assistance and support till the camera is placed in your name at your cost.

Currently no one I know is letting any one change the ownership of the cameras, till they get delivery of the Epic-X stage 2, and if you buy a used camera that is not executed and can be traded for stage 3, is the same thing, if you change name of record before receiving the Epic then you simply can't receive the Epic.

Hope I didn't confuse you more, but I wanted to make sure you understand a bit more of this buying used business, especially since I already have come across two friends during two different productions, that both had purchased used cameras, and the owner of record can't be found, and they can't do the MX upgrade on their camera for lack of authorization by the owner of record.

Thank you. That is a serious consideration for sure.

The factor that weighs heavily against us buying a used RED-One is the fact that the ones I have seen for sale so far are as a "package", and I doubt I will EVER find a package that will fit our special needs. Where as, if I design a package from the beginning, we will probably end up paying less for a new camera than a used one. And, those "used complications" don't help it much either.

Dude the have way better support than any company I have dealt with in my entire life. And I am pretty. I wonder how they do it.
