Does anyone know all the current and planned uses for the two USB ports (one to computer and one to peripheral) on the side of the Red One? Since those are USB 2.0, could that output port be used to feed out the low-rez proxies in real-time to a computer?

Since the proxies only point to the R3D file, I don't see any advantage to feeding them to a laptop in realtime because you still have to put the R3D file on that computer before those proxies will show a picture.

what the heck are the ports for? I never even thought of that before..LOL and I have been shooting the dang thing!

USB ports

USB "out -square" is for camera remote control from computers (we use this in development today, but the plan is to open it up to end user control too) the USB "in-rectangular" can currently be used to power a script light...... :matrix:

You can't send the QuickTime proxies etc out of either of these ports, they are intended for command and control only.

For now, you can use it for charging of your iPhone.

But once the SDK hits the open, exciting times will come. I for one am looking forward to a little control panel that makes for quicker&programmable use of the Red functions. Programmable ramps, with shutter compensation. GPS module. And iPhone charging...

I recall asking for this somewhere...wow...what a sweet implementation. VFX creation will be a lot less daunting with the RED One seamlessly integrating into the pipeline. Excellent job guys.

Exactly. The possibilities are endless...so exciting. I wonder if we'll be able to create similar connectivity with Scarlet?

So can I plug one of these in to control audio levels? Seriously, could you?

i really would like RED or someone to develop an external joystick override in case of catastrophic failure of the little guy on the back, or at least a software controller that does the same from a laptop.
