  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

USB-C Port Poor Performance

Just coming back to this thread.
My fix for this issue with my faulty LINK adapter is to couple and uncouple the the lens before using the USB link adapter. and it all works then - of course - it is a real nuisance.
I reported to RED that it would be ideal if they could just let me try out a new replacement adapter or better still even test the iPAD app.
I simply cannot have so much downtime without the RED especially when the fault is most likely the ADAPTER. My Komodo was only serviced just before I received the ADAPTER.

Hey John,
I'm curious if you are still experiencing this issue and if removing and reattaching the lens is still your workaround.

After a whole year of arguing with Red that I had a faulty link adapter – they finally relented and sent me a new one. It worked straight away. What a joke. Of course, a brand-new replacement worked.

Thanks for the update John.
Glad you got a replacement though concerning you had such a hassle.
I still experience this intermittent issue with my KX and an contemplating sending it in.
I dislike having cameras pulled out of service for these type of issues but I do depend on
the KX/RED Control/USB C combo.

I’m the same – I insisted that it was the link adapter which was at fault and not the camera because I could not go without the camera. And as always the customer is right. Usb cables are still very finicky. I ended up using an ethernet cable and USB to Land adapters on either end. That way you can go as long as you like with no lag.

Interesting.
Is this the same setup as detailed in this post?

I've had solid performance with USB-C with my Komodo OG and Komodo link so I'm surprised (and a bit frustrated) the KX is having this issue.

I like a simplistic setup and the USB-C is great but I need reliability.

Yes that’s the post I followed.

Has there been any progress on this? New to Red and one of the things I loved about the recent Sony implementations was the USB tethering - so I was excited to be able to use it here - - - but it's SOOO flakey and intermittent.

I'm also having issues with using an array of Blue Kondor, OWC, and other high data and wattage cables from varying lengths of 12-24" on a KX. It used to work... sometimes via cable connection. But now, it's a coin toss whether it'll work after the Trust prompt on an iPhone 15. I keep rescanning and most of the time, the phone does not see the Red Control app. On WiFi, all is good.

Yes, exactly. Sometimes it works for 15 min, sometimes only a minute. It will lost connection and the app will freeze at the rescan menu - sometimes it leaves the "ghost icon" of the connection, but you can't click on it. Once the app stops freezing, click rescan produces nothing. The lens off-and-on thing above doesn't appear to work for me. The only thing is to turn the KX off and close the app on the phone, and start over. I would prefer to use it tethered for the sole purpose of what should be a latency-free, reliable connection, but seems Wifi is more reliable!

Same here. I've cleaned the phone port, changed cables, and even thought that 150wh batteries sometimes made a difference compared to the small RED 49wh Nanos, haha. Nothing's worked. Had to use Wifi during the last travel trip because the connection was so unstable.
