FYI, if you are going to power the RED mini USB3 reader, make sure it's the updated version. You unfortunately have to send it back to RED to get the new one.

Using R3D Manager did it ever pick up on any significant errors ?

It did actually. Screwed up my day completely as I had to redump an entire set of SSDs. Put me behind 90 minutes I most definitely didn't have.

Do you ever have the usb3 red mag reader, bus powered and the two owc usb 3 bus powered HDD running at the same time? Interested if the Macpro can power all three devices at the same time? I am hoping to make two backups simultaneously to two external HDD drives via a hub.

no because there's only two usb 3 ports.... so its one copy to the internal 768gb ssd and one copy to the OWC usb 3, 750gb momentum. _ BUT i am actually not sure im satisfied with the speed of the owc enclosure. - I "feel" my noname chinese usb 3 docking station is faster (but it needs external power)

The reason I bought the hybrid momentum drives are because of their low power usage, 750gb capacity, and suposedly "fastish" speed.

Here's an inexpensive rote step to doing two backups if one has the time. Offload to one drive and when that drive is sufficiently full, use a standalone drive duplicator to copy the drive exactly. It will take awhile but if you are only archiving, time shouldn't be a problem.
