make sure your lens mount's contacts are clean and that it's snugly mounted.

Several times... ended up using the 5Dmkii to stuck it wide open...

It seems like there is a communication error between the mount and the camera. Did you remove the mount completely and then re-install? Also make sure to blow off the contacts with air.

Yeah,

Could also be an issue with the lens - what lens are you using? And can you control the lens' aperture on the 5D?
I would also recommend cleaning the golden contacts - do not use greasy fingers, best is a ear-swab with a drop of pure alcohol.
Clean both the contacts on the lens and the camera - make sure camera is powered down!!!
Connect the lens with the camera powered down and then power up the camera...

Beyond that - RED support all the way...

I tried with the Canon 24-70 L and 70-200. Both did not worked on the epic and worked with the 5D.
I'm going to test with another canon mount.
So far, thanks to all of you
