  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Urgent! Need Red RAID cable Tomorrow! (Los Angeles)

Cables are not included with the Red Drives.
If you need us to rush you one, you're only in LA so we can probably make it happen for you in time as long as your shoot isn't in the earliest hours of the morning. Call us in the morning and get a hold of your account rep. If they are unavailable ask for Sean and I will help orchestrate that for you.

Thanks Sean, I will call in the morning and get some cables rush delivered. I have one for tomorrow, thanks Travis. And thanks to everyone who responded. It's nice to know there is such a strong Red community here in LA. I will be more than happy to return the favor.

OK, so why the change?

Some people get a $200 cable included, and the rest of us have to pony up another $200?

Seems unfair, don't you think?

I thought I read in an earlier post that there was one cable pr drive.

I was corrected when finalising my order....

The price is thus 1100 and not 900 pr RAID, which is ok, but should be stated clearer in the shop.

Right... but how is it justified when the cable is now worth the cost of the two drives inside?

Try buying the Lemo connectors on each end. They are about $100 each. Considering the time or equipment needed to accurately solder a connector that complex, $200 is a steal - probably Red's cost. $450 would be what a cable like that would cost for other film gear.

Gotcha. Didn't realize they were so expensive.

Did anyone get the drive without paying extra for the cable?

Guess I was one of the lucky ones. I got two drives with cables. Wish I would have pulled the trigger for 3, which I knew I'd need. I remember some guy bought 9 drives. That guy could probaby unload some cables.

The good thing is one cable and perhaps one backup is all you need per camera. The cable stays with the camera and not the drive.
