The moral is, never upgrade firmware the night before a shoot.

I upgraded my Scarlet to v5.1.49 and suddenly it won't talk to electronic lenses (no aperture control) and worse, the fan runs at top speed constantly. I get a helpful message saying "New fan available, please contact RED." If I'd known that I'd be forced to purchase a new fan, I never would have "upgraded."

I'm trying to backtrack to v4.0.19, which is the earliest "allowed," but I can't locate it on the RED site. The list of available firmware skips from 4.0.18 up to 5.1.34.

The other moral is, keep a copy of your present firmware on your laptop, though I'm not sure that would help in this instance, since that version is not allowed.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks, but that's the one with the gaping hole between 4.0.18 and 5. etc.

Thanks for the suggestion! 5.x versions don't resolve the issue.

Non-electronic lenses aren't an issue, of course.

Just a shot in the dark but have you tried starting it up and holding down the power button for about 10 secs to reset to default? This is where the fan spins at full speed (as if you just installed a new firmware) and then goes back to normal. Maybe it might wipe out some issue and reset all settings. Just a thought.

A good thought, Will. Tried it.

Bob, glad to hear I'm not the only one with the Tokina issue. I've gone back and forth with them for months on that one, and they claimed to have fixed it with an upgrade, but hasn't worked for me, obviously.

> Tokjna 11-16 has never worked for me unfortunately. They are aware of the bug. Not sure of the other two.

Yup, did that.

> For the fans they default to auto. Change it to adaptive.

For anyone who happens upon this thread, RED has determined that it's a hardware issue after looking at the log file, and I've confirmed that by trying my troubled Tokina lens with a different Scarlet body with the latest firmware, without any problems. Which means that, Bob, if you're still having trouble with your Tokina, you may have a similar hardware issue. I hope not.

Finally, RED is being very good about shipping the camera back to RED-land for repairs and trying to get me a loaner in the interim.

Hi Bob what is the difference between auto and adaptive mode.

Thanks
Sunil Prem

Auto, you set a maximum fan speed and the camera will keep it at that speed or lower to keep your camera at an undetermined, but cool temperature (varying fan speeds and varying camera temperature). The fan will only exceed the maximum speed you set if the camera gets critically hot.

Adaptive, you set the target temperature and the camera will run the fan at whatever speed is necessary to maintain that exact temperature (varying fan speeds but consistent camera temperature).

Thank you Kyle.I got it.........

What exactly doesn't work with the Tokina lens if you have this problem? Thanks!
