  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Upset about not having the fixed 2/3" Scarlet??

We knew that we couldn't please everyone. Wish we could, but no way to do that. So we did the best we could.

Don't forget that S35 is not a run'n'gun rig. You'll have to follow focus and your SSD won't last very long at 4K/5K. Lenses are more expensive too.

Basically, we switched from the 10K$ world to 25K$ world and for cinema use only (no run'n'gun, ENG use now).

I must find a B plan now.

As does In-N-Out, Apple, WD-40, SW Air, Red Bull and other business winners that limit their offerings to what they do best. Epic/Scarlet is an awesome duo. Well done RED Engineering. Amazing

Congrats ... I love scarlet-X but can't afford :D

But most people are not happy Because you tease them for years & in the end output is totally different from what it was ..

3k - 6k (fixed package) - 14k (without a lens)

The Scarlet X is amazing yet allot of ppl in the threads are upset about it why? Scarlet X is so much better!!:confused1:

@Ruben: Because we thought it would be cheaper. For a little group of potential REDUsers that mattered.

@Jim: Thanks for trying. I wish something could be done.

Josh since you mentioned In-N-Out I am craving for some animal style burgers :)))

Throughout my business career I seem to use In-N-Out a bunch when describing excellence. That and I had a #2 for lunch today on my way up to the RED show

Apparently most people are happy... it is the ones on a limited budget that aren't. I understand that. I wish we could satisfy everyone, but that simply is not the case. For those on a limited budget, there are lots of great options. But 4K is not one of them.

I have been clear from the beginning that "everything changes". I meant it.

I guess that 14000$ for a working package is to much for me :(

and btw what happened to 120FPS in 3 or 2K? now its sub HD for 120FPS ? strange.

I agree with you ... Scarlet-X is amazing Cam ( no other cam come even closer to it ) But Just one point ... Scarlet-X is so close to EPIC (series) It should be labeled as EPIC - something..

& scarlet can be used for Low end users ... ( just a thought)

Can I have Scarlet fix proto type :D

Any chance we might get a fireware upgrade that would allow us to shoot 50 fps in 3K, if you can wrangle that I'll put my order in tonight! :-)

But 4K is not one of them.

Sure. I never wanted to work at 4K because of the required expensive storage (SSD who lasts 15 mn & LTO tapes to save rushes), follow focus issues (because of bigger sensor) on a run'n'gun rig. I was almost touching a REDcam at 3K 2/3...but I knew the dream was over when I saw that a "new" Scarlet was announced. In fact : EPIC-S = Scarlet-X.

And I never wanted an Epic-S too.

I know you tried, Jim. It's just hard to be in the right spot between "everything changes" and "trust us." I loved the idea of the fixes scarlet as an entry point to the Red world, to high resolution and high framerates. You are certainly right about 4k being the future. But 3k would have been my perfect training ground. I hope one day I'll be able to be part of the true redusers.

I am sure 4k technology will be more affordable in near future...

Josh ever tried protein style :))

Is that the Vegan Burger where they use lettuce instead of a bun? No, a good burger or sandwich always starts with the bread. Warm, soft slightly greasy bun . . . mmmmmm
