  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Upset about not having the fixed 2/3" Scarlet??

I don't think 2/3FIXED Scarlett will be actually released anytime. I don't even think that SCARLET 2/3 prototype shown in flesh a while ago was 2/3. Hypothetically it could be just nice trick to force Canon to do some competitors like C 300, and they finally did it for $20K. Great job. Already obsolete. Before it actually available :)

As to micro 4:3 sensors, the only offering I know (the panny) hasn't been a huge success, for whatver reason...
I'd say the lack of right lenses is the major problem.
If RED would sell 4/3" camera that would sell 5 or 6 digits volume, that might change.
I could have bought $6k camera, preferably (primarly for sensivity and secondarily DoF) 4/3", but 2/3 or s16 would be enough also.
I can't buy $10k camera and bulkiness and DoF of s35 would be pain for most of my work.

I totally agree with you...
I was so proud to open an account on the reduser forum...now it's time to close it and wait (again) what canon will propose with his 4k dslr

Smaller form factor, hand held device shooting RAW, that'd nice!
Indeed, I just don't get why japanese companies don't offer RAW, what are they hiding?
There's no reason why RAW should be just for large sensor formats.

We'll be in Montenegro next months, so not too far away from you. Feel free to email me if you'd appreciate to join.

Thanks for the invitation. One day our paths may cross, it's a small world. ;)

I cannot load vimeo/youtube videos properly as now I'm in a place with limited web access. I will watch it when I get back to the urban jungle.

P.S. Vimeo/Youtube suck anyway. Use torrents.

4k - 24fps half the price and size of a Red One. 2/3's the price with stuff.

Um... what's to complain about?

Funny thing is Red released something better than originally promised, a little more pricey, but worth it in comparison to what we get.

Now Canon is teasing an "In Development" 4K DSLR, nice job Canon, keep copying Red while being a few years late.

Red already did this with the "In Development" Scarlet, except, they already released it. I love watching these marketing battles, they are entertaining.

Deposit for Scarlet being made next week, already sold the 5D Mark 2 for a $1000, could've got more, but lost respect for a company that will add a few features and charge $14k more.

Bomb Squad Rep is up on the plan. I expect great projects, with beautiful images (Colorist Addict) and a Big Ass "Shot on Red" logo all over it.

Shoot whatever you can shoot on. Stories make films. Red makes them pretty!

Did you read previous messages here ?

Some people never waited for a S35 cam, but for a 2/3" cam in the ENG/EFP/run'n'gun style.

These cams are professional tools too and not really for cinema use. Just check the ENG/EFP board on REDUser.

A lot of ENG/EFP users would sell their soul and probably 10 K$ to get a RED ENG/EFP package and like me, they would sign a NDA to get their hands on a working prototype.

+ 1 ! I still want a 16mm format 3k 120fps raw Scarlet. Scarlet-X is a great camera but doesn't fill that gap for an affordable high performance alternative to small chip low end video codec cameras for doc, event, and action sports shooters. 2k 60fps is a poor compromise.

I always wanted to shoot a great feature is always been one of my greatest dream which I'm sure my dream is also share by millions if not billions around the world. with a very small budget of course, I needed a great camera at a great price! but the usual low budget choices were always (Panasonic, Sony, Jvc, canon, etc) there was always something wrong or missing in these cameras. (companies driven by MONETARY gain…)

..then on my infinite search in this dark world I live in for the right camera I suddenly saw a light! I came across Jim's great scarlet (my heroic camera maker) …..they called themselves RED i told this to everyone I came across since 2007 doing exactly what I wish I could do (making the perfect cinema camera at a price anyone could actually afford) his got the money and the best part above all, his got the passion, yes PASSION I couldn't ask for more, a company which makes cinema cameras driven by passion, Oh Excellent!…

I started dreaming and dreaming big just thought get ready for true cinema revolution I could see great deal of choices for the future as far as movies, shows, commercial, etc. choices to see the other side of the coin not only the big dog's. See the perspective of people with great talent from all over the glove having the perfect tool at a price that will allow them to truly show their skills at a level never done or seen before. That to me was powerful! this was revolution!

Never the less I do like to thank and congratulate Jim and the RED team for been brave enough to even try and share some light for those left in the dark, you have done great I never doubt it you for an instant I guess I just have to wait for another boat. Sail on RED! Sail on!
I'm just sad to know I'll be missing the fun again!
ENG guys, it's tough. I thought Mark Toia made a good post. But this post ^^
Man, now thats a post that pulls at my heart strings.

Leonidas, If I make decent money out of my next film. I swear to god I'll give my Scarlet to you.
The Scarlet Indie film dream is one I understand and deeply appreciate.

Alternatively. You said you could get 6K Leonidas? So if there's another eighty REDusers willing to throw a hundred in, then you'd have your scarlet, and your dreams could come true right?

So I'll throw in the first. (My only caveat is that you must start using more paragraphs!!:))

This is similar to how I feel. I have no problem with Red or Jim, I think they are doing amazing things for the industry. I think that the cinema revolution to hear the voice of people without significant commercial budgets from around the world to express their voice, passion and beliefs needs to come - it will help our society in huge ways that are very needed.
In addition to that the world economies are potentially going in a direction that will require smaller budgets for many working professionals, especially in mid-level eng/corporate/doc/event/indie productions.
A new company with the passion, bravery and seed money to make that possible is RED, the big companies won't do it because of cannibalizing their big broadcast lines, market viability etc. The 2/3" or 16mm format is an ideal format for this because of size, weight, price, and longer-range lenses then s35. The cheapest quality 2/3 cam I consider usable in modern 1080p is the Sony PMW350 which is about $20k with a mediocre lens and big/heavy.

I hope that Red is making good money for the good people supporting the company. I also hope that this successful company does a service to the worldwide filmmaking community and makes a 2/3 camera (with or without lenses) available for as little as they can to make some people's dreams a reality, like Leonidas Forteza up there. It will empower a lot of people that will do good things beyond what a for-profit production can risk, and it will support/enlarge the filmmaking community and pay off by growing many future Red Scarlet-X or Epic customers.

If everything is subject to change then please hear our requests and start working to give that empowerment to the people in a way that your company is uniquely able to do.

This is just my humble request and feeling. Congratulations on making a phenomenal s35 camera with the Scarlet-X!

*Also I'll put in $100 if other redusers pitch in to help you buy a camera Leonidas, I'm with Lliam and I bet you're somebody who's voice should be heard.
