Upgrading from 2nd Gen i7-2600k to 7th-Gen i7-7700k - Worth It?

Noticed that the following setup is starting to be choppy and laggy in Premiere CC under 1/8 and 1/16 playback...

Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard
Sandy Bridge i7-2600k 3.4GHZ CPU (overclocked to 4.2Ghz)
4X4GB (16 GB total) RAM DDR2-1333mhz
Geforce GTX 570
OCZ Vertex 240 GB SSD (3GB/s)

I feel like the CPU is the bottleneck since it's always chugging away at 100% during playback. Memory use doesn't seem to come close to maxing out, which makes me think that the CPU upgrade will make a big difference. But I'm not sure the two processors are that different in performance. Maybe I'm wrong? Will this upgrade yield noticeable "playback/preview" performance for 6K stuff?

7th Gen i7-7700k CPU
MSI Z270-A PRO Motherboard
2X16GB (32GB total) DDR4-3200mhz

I plan to update the PSU and graphics card (GTX 1080 Ti) over the next few months.

Appreciate any feedback before I drop $1k.

You'll probably be very sad when you see the increase from a 2nd gen i7 to a 7th gen i7. Intel seems to be more concerned with power draw these days than boosting clock speed. I'm curious as to how the new AMD Ryzens will fare for people.
