Dear all,

with the end of september deadline getting closer I am considering doing the upgrade and have a couple of questions:

- does the EPIC-W come with a pre-installed media bay (for red mags) or is this an additional purchase?
- does the Viewfactor Top Plate still fit on the EPIC-W? if yes, what happens to the RED LCD Connector integrated into the EPIC-W Brain?
- I assume to 15mm Modular Assault Plate does also work with EPIC-W?
- has anybody used the "old" sidehandle successfully with DSCM2?
- the SIDEHANDLE seems to be an interesting piece of equipment - any real life comments? (I saw same wooden sidehandles on pictures - is this a custom thing or only for marketing purposes?)

thanks in advance - best wishes and kind regards,
Martin

1. Yes it does
2. Not sure
3. It should
4. Side handle 1.0 is not compatible with DSMC 2
5. I love mine. Works incredibly well and is vey sturdy. The wooden handle is a custom accessory. It's made by Global Dynamics United.

thanks ignacio!

two more questions:
- is it possible to use the "old" AC/DC Poweradapter for EPIC-W?
- the main reason for keeping the "old sidehandle" was to buffering battery option when used with redvolts ... are there any other options in combination with DSCM2 V-Lock I/O Expander?

best wishes and kind regards,
Martin

Doesn't the upgrade include you keeping the DRAGON? Otherwise, it'd not be worth it in my view. Too much invested in the DSMC 1 accessories to dump them all.

Nikhil, i think it is a trade in - best, martin

It's a trade in. Also note that RED Mags don'w work with the Epic-W, only the newer minimags do.

When you upgrade red sends you an updated power adaptor with the epic W. I'm not sure what it's rated or if they are different. I didn't take any chances. I sold my dsmc 1 power adaptor and use the new one on the epic w.

side handle ddmc 2 doesn't use batteries. it powers entirely off the camera. I power my epic w with a anton bauer wireless gold mount. i couple that with a core hot swap adaptor so I don't lose power on battery powered shoots.

one more question: does the epic-w helium come with interchangable OLPF installed?

best wishes,
martin

has anybody had problems with new Weapon wooden camera top plates and or v mounts?

Not the top plate, but the wireless v mount/AB mount it seems whenever there's a firmware update then the battery percentage disappears from the camera's display and/or the camera would randomly shut down occasionally-I've resorted back to their power option without the chip which I plug directly into the base expander of my brain for power.

Yes, but note this is different to DSMC1. Your old power supply is fine for the new body but as already pointed out the Epic-W comes with to new one. For your "hot swop" options there are modules that take a Redvolt which works fine for this purpose but of course add some bulk and weight to your setup. If you want to use your old displays you will need an adaptor either the ones from RED or e.g. a wooden camera easy top with integrated (2) ports. Have fun, Epic-W is an amazing camera. Cheers, Ulf
