Why is it cheaper to upgrade via RED from Scarlet-X to Epic-X vs Selling Scarlet-X body using cash towards the going rate for a used Epic-X Body for what people are selling them for? I don't quite get it....

I guess it's a no brainer to just upgrade via Red, get the warranty and a brand new body. Now if I can get enough cash before Red ends the upgrade program (hopefully not this year) ---

The current path from Scarlet-X to Epic-X is actually a trade-in program, not an upgrade. So, yes, a brand new body for $9500 + your Scarlet. If you want to proceed along the upgrade path to Dragon, you will have to do it before they shut that down, most likely later this summer.

Do you speculate that RED will end the 'trade-in' program for Scarlet - Epic this summer as well?

Good question - I would imagine they might phase that out more slowly; at least until they deplete inventory of Epic. But, there is really no obvious path for RED to keep offering Scarlet and Epic except for Dragon.

This used to worry me but I've come to terms with keeping my Scarlet till they pry it from my dead cold fingers ;)

I hope that once upgrade paths end to dragon for mx they will kinda have a last blow out for scarlet owners to upgrade to epic for a much more affordable price

I'm with you Ryan, though I think BT Epic-Xs will likely be that "blow out" sale, and not so much a reduced-price trade-in program like the current Scarlet-to-Epic one.

Not exactly, it is in fact an upgrade.

I examined my Epic-X body closely after the upgrade and for instance SDI out and LEMO power out were the old ones from my Scarlet. I could tell by marks and worn red paint on the LEMO connector.

That makes sense to me - especially if they are cabled to a plug in connector on the circuit board as I think other than the sensor and olpf the Lemo connectors may be the most expensive single components.

That's interesting because, from everything I remember, all along the discussion was that the path for Scarlet to Epic was to send your Scarlet in and get a brand new Epic body. Am I the only one who heard that message?

That's the way I always understood it too Terry.

Edit3 - Pointless quesswork removed.

I called RED yesterday in Irvine and they corrected me and told me specifically that it is a trade in program. $9500 + Scarlet Body you get a Brand new Epic-X Body.
