  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

UPDATED: Backorder fulfillment process

Ah, now I see where you're coming from. Thanks for the clarification.

It's not based on when you placed the accessory order, it's when you received the camera body so if serial #10 decides today that he wants an EVF, he'll get the next one and we'll all wait longer.

I get it now.

I was basing it on delaying delivery causing a further delay in receiving back ordered bits. This is still true, so in a way it balances out.

I placed my accessory order with the body almost a year ago so I'm in the same boat. Still, I trust RED to decide these things based on what they think is fair. I imagine the chances of everyone agreeing with it are slim.

Let's hope numbers ramp up to the point where this becomes a non-issue.

everyone who has ordered one will get it sooner than they expect :)

well I expect it at my camera delivery time then the latest, good news :)

Back to the "you can only get accessories if you already have a camera body" philosophy:

One thing that has dented my accessory rental income 2x already for example is that I can't buy a 15mm ET base (since they won't sell it directly and Red won't sell it either, since I haven't taken delivery of my camera yet).
I own a 15mm based follow focus, MB and 5x6 filters. I go work on the east coast (1 was Texas actually) with the Red and no one has a 15mm base for the Red. I can't rent any of my accessories. Puff 600$ lost in rentals, the cost of the 15mm base.

thank god for ebay I got one yesterday for less than face value :)

Enough of the bitching. You guys created a great camera for the price. I just don't understand the philosophy sometimes.

Have a great weekend...

Backordered means backordered, right? It's never a fun scenario. Thing is LCD AND EVF are both backordered. Now how do you use your camera if you haven't got either? That's another case scenario... Should check on a solution for that... Maybe one gets prioritized if someone has neither and have their camera?... :glare: I'm due in September anyway, so I guess by then, I'll be lucky, all will be available plenty! B17, etc...

Right now I only have the Panasonic BT-LH1700w for monitoring. I placed a deposit on the EVF over a year ago.... I would hate for an earlier RED ONE serial number to get their EVF before I do even though they ordered it last week. I can't see anything fair about that. I guess the same situation will happen with the 7" LCD seriously delaying us from having either a LCD or EVF.

LCD is backordered? don´t think so, jon´s shedule says it is shipping

I think it is only fair that early camera owners get first dibs, without having to pre-order everything. Not everyone can spend lots of time reading the forum everyday, just to find out exactly when a new item will be available in the store. Besides, the later cameras have all the new hardware modifications free of charge, and without the hassle of shipping back and forth. Have faith that RED and their policies are fair. Even if RED did favor the early camera owners, it would still be fair. They are the ones who first showed faith in RED.

Well... LOL... of course you would think its fair. If I had only 500 and something cameras before me and could cut in front of everyone else.. of course I would think its fair. A system based on preferential treatment of a few could never be fair to the majority.

These are the kinds of things that you can ask an existing camera owner to purchase on your behalf, though. It's not convenient, but it's certainly better than losing income.

You've already resolved it, but I'm just sayin'--

I should clarify....

We want to make sure the people that have taken delivery or are currently taking delivery have priority on accessory item fulfillment. So, yes, on limited inventory or backordered items, we do require that you have a camera in your possession. However, for accessories we have enough stock in, we will ship to you before you have your camera. You want a CF CARD, UNIVERSAL MOUNT, SIDE HANDLE, etc - we will process it.

We just don't want to be in a situation where we sent an item (eg, ARRI 15mm BASE) to someone without a camera one day and the next day we cannot send one along with a person's initial camera package.

Hope that makes sense. And, soon on RED.com we will have inventory level categories to make this even more clear up front!
