Update Scarlet MX Firmware without ownership transfer?

I have a Scarlet MX curently on version 5.3.33 and wanted to upgrade to the latest version (curently 6.3.102)

I dont have the ownership transfered but have the file downloaded from RED.com. Am I able to still do a firmware upgrade?
