  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

UO and RPP primes...

hey I am serious about it :) any one keen on seeing a REDONE XRAYED... give me some security advice here :))

Can't give you advice but where the electronics is concerned plenty of companies use X-Ray for Nondestrucive Testing (NDT) for faulty electronics. Its the sensor I would guess that would be the only part to risk being damaged. I'm guessing backscatter is not intrusive enough (only for the person doing the testing ;)

You might invalidate your warranty!!!

Well - in reality many of us carry RED ONE's through airport security X-Rays on regular basis, and those who ship them - go through even more powerful X-Rays. I do not think that this should do any damage to the camera. My still camera (with sensor) has been through X-Rays thousands times and nothing has happened...

I would wait for official confirmation from RED, but in my honest opinion You will be just fine...

:) Peter

heh heh heh thats exactly what we were gonna do.... until we found out just how much "casual" x-rays cost :)

Still.... might be worth the coin to just put a Red One under :)

As someone who lives in Southern California, and has a relative who sells x-ray machines, I could probably get you some x-rays for not very much (shipping back and forth)...

if you're interested.

Why is it that you want to x-ray the camera? I forgot...

I'm quite sure there is nothing else that could be confused with it. :-)

If we're going to do anymore X-Rays, let's do one on Graeme's brain. Pretty sure there's some stuff in there that ain't in mine.

I just thought it would look cool. As it might seem like the x-ray of a bionic man or something.

The new Scarlet and EPIC system will be much cooler to see in an x-ray. We'll do one just before release.

To shoot X-rays through a metal casing requires a much more powerful X-Ray source than the ones they use for examining luggage. Your camera may well have been through airport X-Ray scanners "Thousands" (?? C'mon... :) of times, but if it has a metal case, all that will have shown up is a black oblong.

Anyway, my concern is that the X-Rays may erase the firmware, not physically damage the chips. Maybe they should try it with a flash drive first...

I'm just saying, I can get your stuff x-rayed for shipping costs. I would love to take some x-rays of the epic and/or scarlet. I'd do that for free.

EDIT: just as a note, the x-ray machines I have immediate access to are the ones used in airports, etc. Getting to a medical one would take a few days.

I think the better question is....WHY DONT YOU WANT US X-RAYING IT?! What sort of illegal, alien, or otherwise isn't-supposed-to-exist-yet things are hidden in there, Jim?

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

Oh good. We get to see how many elves are in there doing all the work.

Would be a cool teaser for those cameras. Just something to go along with those backlit low light renders of the cameras. But I'm sure when you get around to doing this with the new cameras we won't be looking at renders anymore.

Could be a mini video transmitter revealed in the x-rays
so Jim can see what all his Red One's see

:couch:

AHHH! Im never turning mine on again!!!

LOL

Er... Once your warranty has expired, is there any particular reason why you can't just take the covers off and have a look? I sure as hell wouldn't want to do that to a lens, but the camera is really just a specialized computer.

Appropriate technology, guys:sifone:

I can see it now...

Jim: Hello doctor.
Dr: Hello Jim. How have you been?
Jim: Fine, fine. Look, I've got these lenses....
Dr: Oh?

Ehm - an industrial X-ray machine is rather more powerful than a medical one. You know, safety rules - not killing the patient and that kind of stuff.

Think of the difference between a pocket flashlight and a big searchlight.
