Shooting in an underwater housing with a red drive and getting dropped frames. We are in a pool only 2 to 5 feet deep. Any ideas why frames are being dropped? Could it be a heat issue or vibration issue?

Thanks,
Curtis

Curtis,

Thanks for giving me a call on this, just let me know how that control test goes.

Travis,

Just finished up shots back on a dolly and did not have any dropped frames. Just seems the drives are very susceptible to dropouts underwater.

I know you are already working with Travis, Curtis, but thought I'd chime in. I assume you are using same drive cable and camera with same drive on the dolly? What drive cable are you using (ie, length)?

There is nothing inherent about being "underwater" that would cause drop frames. There has to be another variable (cable, vibration on a RAID drive, etc) leading to your issues.

Brent, we are using the 18" cable and 2 Red Drives. We used both drives underwater and have now been using both on a dolly and have not had anymore dropped frames. I have looked at the footage and have noticed one of the dropouts happened when it was coming out of the water. I will check the other takes and let you know.

Thanks

I remember reading an article about cooling a PC by submerging its parts on mineral oil.

However the standard HDD couldn't be put inside the oil container, because pressure would make it shut down.

Sounds like an air pressure problem... Maybe?
