Bob Cranston testing DeepX
Bob Cranston testing DeepX
Bob Cranston kindly invited me on his boat to evaluate DeepX housing.
I joined Bob and Peter Kragh at Catalina Island yesterday morning and we haded for some local diving. While the visibility was only about 3m (10 ft) the marine life and kelps didn't disappoint.
Bob, Peter and I had excellent time diving, chatting and filming together. I was assisting Bob with lighting most of the time. Peter had a good go with DeepX too. I value his feedback because, along with Bob and Howard Hall, I regard him as one of the best underwater film maker I've ever met.
Peter immediately suggested that, because of the low profile and symetrical top and bottom, the DeepX can be turned upside-down for very low angle shots - something not possible with any other housing. He loved this possibility.
The feedback I received from Bob exceeded all my expectations. He said with a big grin on his face: "It's fantastic! I want to use one on my next [feature] project...I wish Howard [Hall] was here so I could rub his nose and give him a hard time..." ... all friedly, of course
What Bob liked most was the size of DeepX, image quality and the ability to change the lens in a few seconds, which is exactly what he asked for just before he jumped in the water for the second dive.
I enjoyed the diving at Catalina and even more so Bob's and Peter's company. Pictures of Bob and Peter taken yesterday are attached. Bob's report and footage should be coming soon.
