Pawel,

since you have been talking about it all over the place, you are either like mi hunt's FRENCH PUDDLE... all burke and no bite... Or like my Buddy's Doberman, burkes every hour of the day none stop...
Yet bites so hard it will literally remove your Arm off... In fact it has happened to an unfortunate Burglar... So look forward at this point to see which one are you, for the better good of the UW community of
shooters with HIGH demand for Image Quality like my self, I sure hope you are like my friend's Doberman, and come out with an UWH solution for our EPIC and 3D system to blow everything done till today
literally OUT OF THE WATER... Tick Tock... ;)

PS: The Dog analogy absolutely not meant to place any disrespect on your persona Pawel, just to serve as an example... ;)

BTW: This is definitely Promising as far as machining Job, very clean...

12" Dome.....that is HUGE! Need a case to carry just the dome and yes, moving camera in and out to accomodate certain lenses then becomes an engineering issue...HOW to access camera buttons & lens gears. Unless you are engineering the housing for only ONE lens? This then becomes a rather limiting factor....do i have it wrong? probably. but large domes are nothing new...but very "niche" and not used a lot for doc shoots....or rather rarely.

Certainly look forward to see those images. But i'll also say this...my R1 and Epic see WAY better through the water than i can through my mask. I'm always amazed at how much better the conditions look when i review footage. So not surprised there.

Goes without saying, even better with lights. The Gates LED's looked very flat and diffuse underwater, but combined with the MX sensor, picked off some amazing details that were definitely not apparent through the mask.

Would really love to try some of Rudi's filters with the same subjects.

hehehe...thanks Ketch. This piece started as a 200lb block of Titanium grade 4. But, the stuff that's coming is even more ground breaking. Sit tight...it is coming.

If you would like to spend New Year's Eve in sunny Tasmania I would be delighted to do some testing with you. Consider yourself invited to my studio located on a 200 acre private nature reserve in the middle of Frecinet National Park. Tom, you're are welcome too.

This is my test lab about 200 meters from my office: http://vimeo.com/29347608

Not really...here, with different mounting, compared to Seacam Superdome.
Aligining entrance pupil of the lens with the optical centre of the dome is nothing specific to the CinePort. Of course, changing lenses would require adjustment, but I can see no reason to use two different wide angle lenses.
The Seacam mount CinePort can be changed for Flat port (to shoot macro) in about 10 seconds.

Don't tempt me Pawel, I travel alot, the Australs figure heavily, just might show up when yer least expecting it! :smile5:

You're always welcome.

Pawel -- is the Cineport solely a 12" concentric dome? Does it contain any other optical elements?

I want your office. Your hardware is looking world class...keep it coming.

Well, thanks for the invitation Pawel...

Since I finish the Dubai job in mid December, and could end up in Wellington NZ, right after, I could be already close by, making your invitation even easier to accept... ;)

In the prototyping phase I have designed a doublet design to reduce chromatic aberrations. I still have the final design, if you are interested. After some testing I have decided to go with very precise dome of very specific angle of view giving best results. As in most things, the devil is in the detail :)

There is no reason not to make the CinePort available for Gates housings as an option...wink, wink :)

Thanks Clayton, I like the work you do too.
Yes, the scenery and variety of settings is incredible here: from white quartz sand beaches going for miles, high cliffs, crystal clear Tasman sea, granite Hazard mountains with breathtaking views, the bay, not to mention huge forest and bush areas...all at the door step and all teaming with exotic wildlife....

90% of time, with prevealing westerlies, the conditions are perfect for diving with swell less than a foot high - all year round.

I can't imagine a better spot anywhere in the world ... and I have seen a few good once :)

You are invited to visit if you are in the area too.

This sounds similar to a'corrector' we made for the Zeiss DigiPrime 3.9. Behind a dome that lens is poor. With Zeiss' help I designed a simple doublet placed between lens and dome to correct the aberrations and distortions across the entire 110° FOV. The result is remarkable, but the key reason is the corrector was designed specifically for the DigiPrime 3.9. It would very likely not work with any other lens.

It's also important to note that we made this by specific customer request. Other lenses (like Fujinon, for example) work far better behind a dome, and don't require such measures. The Tokina 10-17 is also quite sharp behind a dome because Tokina didn't even try to make it rectilinear. And it's a $600 lens.

So Pawel, is the Cineport designed for a specific cinema lens?

Pawel,
looking at your posted photos of cineport, i don't see anything that stands out in form factor (maybe that's not the right word/s)....what i mean is anything that is different than a standard dome port design. Maybe you had it cut so it's not as large an arc, and of course it's a much larger dome than what's considered normal....in 6", 8" and 9.25" range....but are you saying that the GLASS itself has some better build or chemical makeup quality than say Subal glass? I'm still trying to see how you have come up with something "new" that would add considerable and measurable quality difference. I would have expected you maybe came up with a design that is not a true dome and is has a some-what rectangular design...maybe something like the old Amphibico f900 housing....i think that's what i recall being a very different design....at any rate, i think you have the u/w community's attention and waiting......i'll act like a RED head and ask: "when will we see more?" and if it is all as you say, i'm sure you have a lot of us waiting for your offer to Gates and Aqua so we have that option to shoot even better images.

Perhaps an aspheric design, after the fashion of a Fathom Optics glass dome?
