DEEP EPIC @ DEMA

This didn't exist three weeks ago. Now that we have our own EPIC-X, things move quickly.

More pics to follow tomorrow.

Looks like Scarlet / EPIC-S is physically identical to EPIC-M and EPIC-X. When confirmed, all three will then be interchangeable in DEEP EPIC.

any price on deep epic yet?

Just under $20K for the complete package including DEEP EPIC housing, REDMOTE Controller, LCD housing (for either 5.6 or 5" LCD), SP80 Dome or FP80 Flat Port and Port Extender.

NOTICE TO ALL DEEP RED OWNERS

You may have already heard that we're soon replacing all LCD cables for your system. No Charge.

History: DEEP RED design was forced to use the RDCC LCD cable due to proprietary signaling and cable construction. The cable works great topside, but not so for marine use / abuse. This past summer, Jarred graciously allowed Gates to manufacture the cable under license but with a marine-grade provisions: polyu jacket, water block, aramid fibers. It's bulletproof (as you would expect).

The replacement cables are now being made and will start coming available within two weeks. Contact Gates for more details.

would dearly love to see some deeper wide angle footage shot on epic without lights. trying to get a feel for its underwater performance given its dynamic range.

Hey Lonny
it's just as easy to fix the colour curves in Redcine X Pro now not sure if the URPRO filters are required any more.

Adding a red filter to R1 or Epic or Scarlet is NOT what you want to do. NOR do you want to shoot Tungsten ligthing...all things we would normally do when shooting most other cameras and especially from Sony 900 on down to VX1000. RED sensor is a daylight sensor and should be treated as such. Shoot daylight lighting and add modest amount of red in post IF and WHEN required based on depth and based on lights or no lights.

Galapagos Islands & Darwin's Arch - Whale Sharks

Galapagos Islands & Darwin's Arch - Whale Sharks

Just finished up on a 2nd trip to Galapagos for a one hour doc we are shooting entitled "Island of the Giant Sharks" - about Pregnant whale sharks that routinely pass by Darwin's Arch next to Darwin Island in the Galapagos Archipelago..... scientists are satellite tagging these 12-17meter animals and tracking their routes and hoping to expose and answer many questions about them including where do they give birth; how do the navigate and many more complex questions. The answers are unbelievable.....well rather reveling.

Frame grabs shot on R1 MX & Deep RED

Hey Johnny
Those are extraordinary images I can't wait to see the film. A 2 shot with whale shark and hammers...incredible. Did you shoot these on CCR?

Ross....plenty of strange shots here....i had brought along my Cuda 650 scooter and Camera mount and was able to follow the whale sharks for far longer than if by "fins"....in some cases about a half mile or more into "never never land" But we saw interesting imagery with the scooter including dolphins bow riding the whale sharks as well as silky and hammerheads.
