today grey and rainy outside - i did a dirty fast "worst case" test with Dragon:

see a before - after sample here:

https://flic.kr/p/naNg8j

interior was dark and only a quite small kitchen light - outdoor is a white wall i exposed on ...

100 f/s and 180 deg, all stuff you never would do under this light situation with a 6K camera ;-)

i love the highlight stuff outside - you can create very nice highlights ...

i wanted to know what can i get out of this image - it´s quite a lot, and the colors stay well - of course there is noise and you need helping tools, but, that´s why people create this tools ...

watching this pushed image at a HD TV works completely fine ...

ADD is one of the best outputs of the last years, ... Red is delivering a great package indeed

tomorrow we will do some 1:1 tests Dragon - MX ...

Cheers!

yes Gunleik, you know better than me (as you have the Dragon quite longer ;-)) that this package put a smile on every colorists face ... ;-)

Hi Russ, but it´s a must to say: you have to do smth on this frame in post to achieve it ;-) but it´s possible ... main difference is, to MX, that Dragon keeps better the colors and skintones ...

slight correction from me: shutter was around 1/200, 45 deg, so really underexposed

Thanks for showing this Jan. A good reference post to show those who disbelieve. Beautiful recovery of data.

Jan, I saw the comparison of the MX vs dragon on a SUV, could I see the same comparison with the MX with the DRX applied, the magenta is very distracting. I really think that comparisons between both cameras should be with the DRX applied in the MX sensor. Also would love to see a controlled light test between both if it is possible. Thanks for your time.

yes, will do, of course with DRX it´s much better - we just wanted to know, does Dragon need any corrections here ... MX needs ...
i can send on monday

no problem, i will shoot 2morrow again the same and can send you R3D from MX and Dragon - Monday then - but they are equal (when MX has DRX on - but i often see that this is not done in postproduction, so Dragon is more "save" here )

Exactly, it is amazing some people don't even know that function exist, or don't know what it does. That's why I really think it should be always "ON", like when you import dragon files. It should not even be an option to turn it OFF.

Your right, it is realy a what can be saved using post software.
although a very basic what can be saved if, sort of test. If being as you described worse case situation.

yes, there is a lot of MX footage out there with Magenta in the Whites . with Dragon it won´t ;-)
that´s why we pushed it to the limit - with MX you MUST correct, Dragon not.

Edit: with Dragon footage DRX is "off" in Redcine

Good lighting and a great post budget puts a smile on my face.

heh heh, i would be interested in your grade on the test samples from my other thread
