I agree completely.
Try going into your local Supermarket for a weeks shopping and say at check out; But I only got 1/4 the rate this week can you tied me over?
Carry on like that and you will end up working as a shelf stacker in the same market.
[No detriment intended to anybody]

A producer who was very very successful once said to me. I pay the rate for the job and my shows sell and are sought after.
If you pay peanuts you get Monkeys!
By paying the best and most consistant rates in town he only had the best applying for the Crew lists he employed.
I think this says it all.:leaving:

You have to hold the line with your client and not be afraid of losing the gig. Most producers bid out to two or three vendors only (if that). Make this work for you by holding the line on your pricing. Whenever I have rented the package out for the discount rate I require an upfront payment. Can't give me money upfront? Get the camera from someone else. They usually give me a check at pick up, because they have invested valuable time in tracking down the camera already and the idea of starting over with someone new is wasted effort.

If you're losing or getting back damaged equipment, you must get your L&D covered. I require insurance on every rental, verified by a check out list inventory that is signed by a member of the production. Paperwork sucks, but eating several hundred dollars worth of repairs and replacements sucks more.
