  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Unbelievable rental "disaster". . . can I check my Canon calibration?

As much as I feel your pain, I think Mickey is correct.
Might be time to consider hard cases for anything going out of house.

All the Best!

Thank goodness they were Canons and not a set of Zeiss, Cookes, or anything else really.

Frankly I think you should have production buy you those lenses brand new (on insurance) and they can repair, and sell or inspect and sell the old lenses.

That's severe negligence. So glad your red wasn't under the tires.

I feel your pain. Actually I was on a student shoot in Latvia(a thesis work for a coursemate of mine) just two months ago where the producer rode over the camera bag, crushing a Chrosziel follow-focus, a 17-40mm canon L series lens, a card reader and partially the 5dMii we were shooting on. The great part was that although the body of the 5d was tore open and twisted it still worked with a nikon adapter(we were shooting on the p+s technik zeiss lenses) after we gaffer taped all the twisted stuff.

The funny part was, that the dop left the camera bag on the ground, and he is the most professional and cautious dude ever. I guess when you have no money for the production and nobody hasn't slept decently for a week the probability of mistakes like that rapidly increases.

Sorry to hear about that.

Even though I am in the rental business, every time a piece of my equipment is damaged (or stolen) I can't help but take it personally.

The hard part is letting go of all the time and effort you put into taking care of lens/camera when it ends up like this: under the wheel of a Suburban pickup truck; crushed by a freight elevator gate; etc. But accidents happen, and as someone else said, it may cheaper to replace the lens - either way it should be an insurance claim.

If, down the road, you are looking for customized cases, Steven Zuch can help you customize the A&J or Pelican cases - depending on what style case you prefer. szuch [@} optonline {dot] net

UPDATE: The 17-35 is now at Canon for it's rehabbing. It will be interesting to see what they say about it. . . and if it can be fixed at all.

Amazing.

Stephen

The 17-40 that was run over in our shooting was fixed by the owner with a screwdriver, a hammer, an old canon to m42 adapter and superglue :willy_nilly:

gladly he replaced it with a 16-35 so

I would be looking to replace all the lenses in question.

What if a year or so down the road one of them craps out? Do you want to be wondering, "Was it that time with the Suburban? Or is this a normal crap-out?". At that point, it would be much too late to do anything about it.
