Well, I'm feeling a bit nutty at the moment, so I've decided to share with you the short films I've helped make. You can laugh all you want, but please, no direct insults. Thanks.

Marvelette vs. the Rubber City Madman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DsFNG4gd2M - Random assortment of SD consumer cameras, as well as my HV20, and a XL-1s.

Serial Diner - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmMhoY95Ars - My HV20 and another guy's HV30.

Both shorts were conceived completed in less than 48hrs. The first was for an actual contest, the second was a self-imposed challenge. Our group, Little Hollywood Ohio, has decided to have our own little 48hr challenge every few months in order to help us improve our abilities.

what is/was your intention in posting those videos? why did you do it?

Both shorts were conceived completed in less than 48hrs.

My reactions after having endured the first film:

So you spent 1 hour on the script, 5 minutes of explaining the script to the "actors" (prompters), 2 hours on shooting, 1 hour on editing, 2 minutes on choice of music?

Sorry, I just do not see the point in posting badly shot, soft z-movies on reduser.

Bad choice of angles. Unmotivated plot point. Cheap sounding music (no budget is no excuse for crap music. Try http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/ next time). No direction in the lighting; shadows and exposures all over. Bad framings. No rhythm in the editing. Why black&white - does not look like 50 year old film at all, just desaturated consumer video. Sound: ouch, both on the recording and mixing stage. Inserts: totally unfitting.

The whole film just so obviously lacks pretty much any basic technique of film making.

Somehow I did not get to see the other film...

Sorry, not to be insulting, but if you post on a professional forum, you must be able to take some heat.

I'd say: learn the tools first, then start giving yourselves little challenges.

I was feeling a bit nutty. That's all.

EDIT: Look, none of those involved are professionals. We're just doing this for fun. And guess what? We had fun. So we're satisfied.

EDIT2: Yes, I'm well aware that these shorts have production values through the floor. And that they are leagues below anything on reduser. But we're not trying to be perfect. We're not really trying to do much of anything. We're just making movies. Because that's what we like to do.

I'd like to see something where you actually "try" then. You like making movies (just like most of us here) - keep going, work hard and try.

Stick to it - no one here made a stellar first film.
