Are there any new ultra bright LEDs being shown at nab ?

What are the brightest LEDs available on the market? I remember researching adentech a few years ago who claimed to be equivalent to a 2.5 hmi. Any newer or brighter options out there?

Thanks in advance for any information.

And what about the CRI? HMIs are HMIs because they look, well, just about perfect.

"Consuming less than 5 Amps of Power"
As electronics engineer I feel a little hurt

You get used to it after a while.

A 500W LED source - that's a LOT of power for LED.

David, no electronic device can consume 5 Amps of Power, because amps are no watts without volts :-)
At least I assume that´s what hurts Matthias...

Cheers, Ulf

Yea I'm an EE too... so I was feeling his pain. :-)

Hmm... the Aadyntech light claims equivelance to a 5k HMI with a specified 4000 ft-cd at 10', the light I've been thinking about buying for high speed video is the Hive Wasp... which spec's 4700 ft-cd at 10' and claims equivelance with a 400W HMI. I think I'm missing something somewhere.

Hi David,

When I used to think I was clever, and was going to become a Chemical Engineer I took Advanced Calculus. The Double E crowd was distinct group, seemed to me. At any rate, for my money, I have a healthy respect for that subset. Thanks for your posts.

Thank you very much

Hehe... very diplomatic way to put it. There was a great meme going around a couple weeks ago that sums up my esteemed colleagues: "This week is national Engineers week, so Hug an Engineer... he won't like it, but do it anyway".

Is there anyone with direct experience with either the Hive Plasma lights or the AadynTech lights? On the Aadyntech home page there is a shot with a magenta frame in front of the light, is this an indication of a green shift?

My only Hive experience was at Vision Research, it was a very bright source that worked well for high speed video, but maybe not optimal for macro work like this video (though you can see the color reproduction in any event... this is unedited other than resizing from 4k to 1080p).

I've played with their JAB daylight, and it was a touch green compared to HMI and Kinoflo. 1/16th magenta will set it right if it becomes and issue (1/8 magenta was a bit much, but better than nothing at times).. Light was punchy, but seemed to fall off faster than HMI.

It didn't replace HMI or Kino or 1X1's, but was very handy and used a lot as it could be plugged in last second without need for power or heat considerations.

At the price, I was a bit disappointed by the CRI, but a useful tool none the less. A lot of power for the small amount of power draw.
