This is my ultimate 2 cam rig that consists RED and Canon 7D.

I was a right time to upgrade my old Canon 40D.

Hopefully that sensor upgrade of RED1 is coming up soon (!?).

Now I can nice use both cameras together in this rig below.

If I need high ISO "noiseless" shot in a low and available light that I can choose Canon 7D and be careful with a different sort of surfaces to avoid aliasing,...

If I need all other type of shots in daylight, tungsten and slow motion then RED1 is a king.

Lol, that was fun.

And shows just what a cool concept the modularity of Epic and Scarlet is.

Happy weekend / Friday 13th.

Marin,

this rig has nothing to do with "a cool concept the modularity of Epic and Scarlet is".

It's a simple, easy and effective for studio or whatever run-&-gun handheld free style shooting.

It combines the best of both worlds RED1 and Video DSLR @ 24 FPS/25 FPS.

This is what we have today.

About tomorrow do not know...I'm not a magician in that case...

Also>> Happy weekend / Friday 13th.

Hi Sanjin,

Here are a couple of 5 camera rigs I used recently.

is that mike shiva in the cadaver bag stephen? finally!

Stephen, what exactly were you doing with this multi-camera setup?

Supposed to be that is from a commercial!

But stay tuned,

I'm coming with a low light night "balcony" quick & dirty R1 vs 7D high ISO noise test.

Tom,

I wouldn't say that the game (a.k.a "R1 vs 7D") is over.

Here we go with high ISO low light contrast R1 vs 7D at the quick & dirty comparison test:

Canon 7D was @ Auto ISO 3200, lens was Canon 50mm EF f/1.4 @ wide open f/1.4, HD 1080p, H264, 25 FPS.

RED1 test was processed @ max ISO 2000, 25 FPS,

the first example was @ shutter 1/50, and the second was 1/25,

lens was Leica Summilux-R f/1.4 @ wide open @ f/1.4.

R1vs7D_hig_ISO_03.jpg

RED1 test was processed @ max ISO 2000, 25 FPS, this second was @ shutter 1/25 (shutter priority/exposure compensation).

To get better impression how was about the lighting look at this picture above shot by Canon 40D.

Here you can download the test footage H264, HD 1080p, 128.3 MB, double click right button to save as>>>

Stephen, what exactly were you doing with this multi-camera setup?

Hi Tom,

Shooting a low budget Video, the director had just shot a feature where the camera dept was a little slow, resulting in not enough coverage. So shooting on 5 cameras all the time seemed like a good idea to him, reduced the lighting options for me. Cutting between cameras every few frames meant that no frame rate conversion was required!

Neat rig, Sanjin.

You mean moiré, not aliasing. There are a many types of aliasing artifacts, and moiré is just one of them. Thankfully, it's easy to avoid moiré by being sure that there are no repeating patterns in focus in the scene.

The only types of surfaces that avoid *all* aliasing artifacts are the ones with no fine details at all: no edges, no texture, no resolution.

Daniel,

you are right.

Also I've got a tip and advice on another tread to use Caprock 2.0 anti moiré+anti aliasing filter that exactly helps in a

"struggle with pattern moiré and aliasing caused by the interference between repeating patterns in the subject (such as tweed or denim fabrics)..."

Caprock 2.0 anti moiré + anti aliasing filter

I ordered but still didn't get it and there are some tests from Isaac Brody, also a member of this forum, shot on Canon 7D.

They look pretty good:

Tonight I did outdoor side by side test at the neighborhood street with ISO 1600 result from both cameras

RED1 and Canon 7D.

Below is the footage link and you could download it to see what happened.

Also I do not make any conclusion and the test footage speaks for itself.

Shot by RED1 @ ISO 1600, lens Canon 50mm FD L f/1.2 @ f2.2.

I continue with my R1 vs. 7D comparison test.

As we can all say that 7D can't compete with R1 resolution, sharpness, color, contrast, etc... even @ high ISO (1600).

R1 shows a nice noise compared to 7D compression artifacts.

Below is the latest example in low candle lights.

R1_Lagavulin01.jpg

Shot on R1 with Leica Elmarit R Macro 60mm f/2.8 @ f/3.4, ISO 1600, shutter 1/50, 25 fps.

7D_Lagavulin01.jpg

Shot with Canon 7D with Leica Elmarit R Macro 60mm f/2.8 @ f/3.4, ISO 1600, shutter 125, 25 fps.

R1_Lagavulin_REDAlert_01.jpg

R1 shot in REDALERT.

7D_Lagavulin_HDMI-out_01.jpg

Canon 7D has a cleaner HDMI preview out (probably it is 720p out) at 1080 Panasonic plasma (photo shot on Leica D-LUX 4) than the image recorded @ H264 compression from CF card.
