Hi all, have read many threads on storage and graphics cards and am gonna go for a Mac Pro package purchase in a few days. Just wanted to throw it out to my wiser Red brothers and sisters for any feedback or much needed advice.

We are shooting a Brit feature april 09 in Yorkshire, with some Kodak lenses, hopefully getting a 17 -35mm f2.8 AFS but have a few lesser ones in the box. We have the chance to use Cooke primes bit it's gonna sting.

Have ordered a Birger mount but might cancel as it's costing 1800$

Sorry = to my main question. For Red edit.
Mac spec:
From Macwarehouse.co.uk been quoted the following prices.

Mac Pro Two Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8GHz with 6 gig installed. £1400 + tax
they suggest the nvidia 8800 for £100, I have read mixed reviews on here, some say get the ATI 3870 is better. Any thoughts anyone? is there a big difference.

The G Tech ES drive, 4 gig I think. it's £1000 + tax.
I have looked at the Caldigit drive but for 4TB they are around $9000.

Sorry, I know this is a fairly tiresome thread but would appreciate any feedback if poss.

Thanks Pete H.

hey we have some interesting docs and a promo teaser on our site.

if you can wait a month before buying Mac Pro new graphic cards cooming and new processor should be cooming also.

I'm looking for a good and fast storage solution too
what I can tell you for sure is Caldigit is not the way to go

CalDigit HDPro 8HDD Bays drive array
8TB configuaration (8HDDx1TB) $8,649.95 (B&H price)
387,5 MB/s average Read/Write speed. (Aja kona system test)

QUITE SLOW FOR ITS PRICE!!!!!!

Ciprico MediaVault 5116 RAID System 16 HDD Bays (no drives) $3766.00 (Macgurus Price)
16 HDD (HE103UJ Samsung Spinpoint F1 RAID Class 1TB) $138 each (OWC Price) $2200 total
Complete 16TB System $5966

Ciprico offers more than twice the performance (close to 800Mb/s)for $2683 less...

Since Ciprico declared bankroupt this August this option is gone

The same tecnology is used also by Dulce
here is a demo
