Just submitted a report ticket, but I have a shoot tonight, so I thought I'd ask the forum for some help. My RED will not boot. Used to boot about 50% of time - Release Build 15, but now it just turns the rear LCD on, does not say "Booting..." fan runs and NOTHING. I have tried all combinations of what has been plugged in the camera and what has not. Even with only the power cable connected it will not boot (either with wall power or battery). I have used my camera on one shoot and have a shoot TONITE, tomorrow and saturday. I am really, really bummed out and don't know what to do.

Any suggestions? The thing just will not work!?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have no way of booting it up in the first place let alone, loading up firmware. CF card inside does the same thing. LED Screen goes backlit but with no "Booting..." text.

I don't know, but I would try leaving your camera on for a few minutes and see if anything changes. It may be really warm, that maybe be why the fan is and LCD is the only thing that turns on.

No, this is the rear LCD which is the first thing that turns on in any boot cycle. Its as if the boot cycle begins but freezes before the camera prints out "Booting..." on the rear LCD.

From my experience,

Unplug the power cord. Hit the power button 5 times, once per second. Try to boot it up now.

This is dumb & probably not whats going on, but after upgrading my build, I turned my camera on and noticed that the LCD was not going on. The backlit LCD was ON but my display LCD was off. I rebooted several times and realized that the camera defaulted to display the EVF, so I went through the menu, navigating on the back of the cam, and switched it to the LCD and all was good.

If I were you, I would get a backup plan in place.. If you are in LA, I'm sure RED can work a miracle for you

best of luck either way

where are you located?

Thanks for the tips guys,

After trying rgd's five click method it booted (oddly enough). The LCD occasionaly shuts off and we have to reboot again. I would downgrade to build 13 but we need those multiple outputs. I'm hoping we make it through the shoots this weekend. Do you guys think this is typical build 15 behavior or should I be sending it back to RED?

Were shooting at UCLA. Thanks again for the suggestions and help.

Its been my experience on many occasion that the first time you power Red to boot up you get the "Booting..." display and if it doesn't go to the rest of the readouts right away I power down and wait about fifteen seconds and then power up again and it boots. If you are impatient, as many people are, and try to power up too soon you will just repeat the first result. (I should mention that the Red Drive is attached and the wait is to allow the drive time to reset)

So far this pattern has been very consistent. I would suspect my experience is not unique.

Craigs right, if you don't get the next info screen fairly quickly after first pushing the power, within 20 secs about, shut off wait 15 to 30 and start
again. Has worked every time for me

You can't fix it,.. it's gone...

You can get a Scarlet instead, it's fixed by default...

... and give that piece of trash to me. :usd:

Ha - So we're up and running off AC now, seems to be working... I'll post some pictures if I get a chance! Thanks for the help - I think this booting issue is definitely something that should be fixed.
