  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Two RED problems. . . neither huge, but irritating.

Hi there. . . two issues:

1. Today, the rear function button on our RED (#791: "Lewis") came off during a shoot. How can this thing be put back on? It seems as if the little screw that MIGHT have been inside it is now missing. Can I just epoxy that button top back on????

2. Our second RED, (#1248?: "Clark") has issues with starting and stopping. Sometimes, it just doesn't start recording when the button is hit. Sometimes it records. . . sometimes it doesn't. . . but it always SEEMS as if has started recording. Is this a Build 15 issue???? (I don't know what version of 15 I'm on at this point.) Should I just attempt a new build install?

Thanks much for your insights.

Stephen

We had that recording problem on one of our RED's and sent it in for servicing; it came back a few days later and worked fine.

Don't know if the button problem can be fixed by yourself with a spare part, or if you should send it back to RED.

Red does sell a joystick repair kit (yes the screw is missing) Call your rep.

David... are you shooting Build 16? Your thoughts?

1. We do have a repair kit if your joystick button gets messed up. Contact Brent. (brent@red.com)

2. If you have any issues like this, send the camera in. We will fix any issues and return in in a couple of days... N/C.

I noticed this recording problem as well (in the latest build - never happened before) the red light is on, it acts like it's recording, but it aint...

One thing I admire about the Red so far is that, despite bugs and "personality", it will always tell you if something is wrong. A thousand graces are given when you can trust the foundation of "is it recording?".

If this kind of bug has cropped into the software this needs to be fixed, ASAP. Nothing will ruin RED's reputation more quickly than a fake roll on a high-dollar shot.

For us we never used again the rear Record button. It hangs sometimes and if the button is hanging, the cam does strange things...

Just tell us what is happening and we will fix it... we always have and we always will.

"camera rolling!"
"ok, let's blow up the skyline..."
BOOM!
"oh wait, camera actually not rolling..."

Can be "not funny at all"
Please Red team it is your responsibility to make sure this will not happen.
These kind of malfunctions can be crucial for camera survival.

Rear record button can be a bit flakey - once in a while you hit it and it won't record. Never had a problem with the side record button (at least there's another option for recording!) Never encountered the record light coming on but nothing actually recording - that sounds like a serious problem...send it straight back to Red.

But still, even with other cams than RED you don't only use ONE, if you are about blow up a skyline....
