  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Two Red Packages Stolen - Bodies #810 & 237

in NY some insurance policies have clause that will not pay for equipment left in an unattended vehicle.

so in this case.. check with your insurance.. if they dont cover your stolen shit from your car.. then magically your gear was stolen out of your house

And that would constitute Insurance Fraud, a major crime. Bad idea.

Sorry to hear about that, Indie.
Same thing happened to me last summer, as some of you may recall. HDX-900, Pro-35, etc. from a cube truck that the PA took home instead of parking in a lot.
Steve Gal is right- check the policy carefully. I don't rent to people who have restrictive clauses in their policies.
We'll all kep an eye out for that gear, Indie. :(
Cheers,
Harry

Lo-jack the Red, thats a good idea. Anyone got any information about that?

As far as spotting the cameras, it would be sketchy if the serial number wasn't there or they had a tripod plate on the bottom they didn't want taken off. Who knows, maybe the person that ends up with it will be silly enough to start posting on here.

Red should allow us to keep our place in line, luckily, as it's the "purchase" that created our spot, not the "possession"... But of course I'll have to trade in camera #4billion or whatever we're up to now :D

I heard it was over 5, not 4... lol.

Good point though, it should be rather simple on their end to keep track of. Hopefully they won't mind doing so for you since getting one of the first 300 Epic-X 's is such a big deal for you.

I feel terrible when gear is in my Vehicle, anywhere. I'm nervous stopping to just get Gas.

im not understanding how that much gear would leave you in a car? doesnt seem physically possible on one hand and on another what kind of client of "yours" works out of a car? I would have never allowed 100K worth of gear to leave our place in anything less than cube truck but at very least a cargo van. Something isnt right here!!

Are you in the middle of a project?
Do you need some support with a full package? email me, we would be glad to help you out.

Red should write a program that could detect footage that was shot on a stolen camera. The camera serial number is in the metadata on the footage somewhere isn't it? Cross reference the stolen camera serial with a database of stolen cameras serials back at HQ.

A "call home" feature could contact red headquarters or the authorities reporting the IP address of the computer that's got the footage from the stolen camera on it. This doesn't seem so different from what software companies do to prevent pirated/hacked versions of their software from being used.

This at least would be enough information to attempt to track down the thieves.
