  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1) Someone said to me that you no longer have to change/format the drive to change resolution so you can now have 2K and 4K on the same disk. Is this true?

2) I heard that using the relative shutter mode is unreliable. Is that true?

Thanks in advance.

I only work off CF cards, but do change resolutions all the time within a single card. So, yes. I believe it is the project settings that should not be changed within a single roll.

It is true that you heard that . But what do you mean by unreliable? It is just a different way of thinking. (Which brings me to a feature request: Please have an option of simply setting the shutter by degrees.)

Thanks for the info.

I just heard something about the relative shutter mode being unreliable e.g. setting 180 degrees, switching to 30FPS and still having a 1/50th sec shutter. I'm happier using degrees so long as it is working.

So long as the project TIME BASE is unchanged, you can record any combination of QUALITY and RESOLUTION.

I heard that using the relative shutter mode is unreliable. Is that true?

Not true.

Multiple resolutions and frame rates ARE recordable on the same drive.

Change the Resolution in the menu structure as you would normally.

SYSTEM / PROJECT / CONFIGURE / RESOLUTION, then select.

You cannot MIX the TIME BASE selections on the same media.

You wanna be careful with those "things you hear". They're almost always wrong, in my experience!

I imagine where this has come from is the inexplicable decision to allow readout in degrees with an absolute shutter time, and vice-versa (please change this on the Epic guys!). In order to have degrees showing and acting as you would expect, you need to change the shutter type from "normal" to "relative" as well as changing the display to degrees.

Cheers,
Dom.

I guess we could always just kill the Degrees selection and accept the way the technology is set up to work - i.e 1/xx sec :-)

Sorry Stuart, maybe you misunderstood - just making the point again that a single selection between relative shutter/readout in degrees and "normal" shutter/readout in 1/xx secs would be far more intuitive.

Really just a menu change, nothing functional. By the way, if you've gone to a lot of effort to add degrees-based shutter control, then all the more love for you - it's very much appreciated. I just find my ACs are almost always a bit confused by the ability to select relative readout without relative control...

Sorry if I was unclear...

Cheers,
Dom.

Thanks for the info. I've been using relative shutter mode since it was added (at the request of reduser members). I think (don't quote me) it was a very old red centre where I heard something about the relative shutter not working, so I stopped using until I got conformation.
