I have an 833 and really love it. Not sure that I need 4 more channels, but this is a great option for anyone who does need this and it makes sense if one has the SL-2 wireless option which can handle 8 channels by itself, giving 4 more analog or AES channels and a total of 16 tracks. Good move SD!

I feel similar. Have already got the Sound Devices XL-AES so I can put in an extra 8 channels of AES into my 833 (plus I've got 2x quad converts for analogue to AES from AJA).

But that's a very expensively priced firmware update for the +4!

So I'm definitely not getting it, however it is good to know I've got that option should I need to handle a bigger sized shoot.

I did last month do a big day on a film with a dozen channels, but I just used a couple of mixers in front of some of the inputs of my 833, so I could squeeze in the extra inputs into my 10 ISO channels without having to spend the $$$ for the +4 firmware update (as it was a low budget film, so I won't going to spend heaps of $$$ on the gig).
