Two New Angeniux Lenses 19.5 mm X 94 mm T2.6, and the Angeniux 28 mm X 340 mm T3.2; http://www.angenieux.com/file/datasheets/cinema/optimo-19-5-94.pdf and the http://www.angenieux.com/file/datasheets/cinema/optimo-28-340.pdf both exceed the 31.4 Image Circle!

Optimo 28 – 340 - Zoom Ratio: 12X Focal Length: 28 – 340 mm Aperture: f/2.9 – T3.2 MOD: 4 ft - 0.5 in – 1.23 m Internal Focus: Yes Image Coverage: S35+: 31.4 mm diagonal

Optimo Zoom Ratio: 4.7X Optimo Focal Length: 19.5 - 94 mm Aperture: f/2.4 – T2.6 MOD: 2 ft - 0.5 in – 0.62 m Internal Focus: Yes Image Coverage: S35+: 31.4 mm diagonal Weight (approx.): 12.3 lbs – 5.6 kg Length: 335 mm (PL) 330 mm (Panavision) Front Diameter: 136 mm

Finally a lens that was designed with the 5K Epic in mind (in addition to the existent 15 mm X 40 mm; 28mm X 76 mm; and the 45 mm X 120 mm lenses).

Thales Angenieux Optimo 28 mm X 340 mm Complementary version of Optimo 24-290, Optimo 24-340 has been specially designed for an image coverage up to 31.4 mm diagonal for a perfect compatibility with all S35 Film and Digital cameras – full frame 5K format of Epic among others.

Thales Angenieux OPTIMO 19.5 mm X 94 mm Complementary version of Optimo 17-80, Optimo 19.5-94 has been specially designed for an image coverage up to 31.4 mm diagonal for a perfect compatibility with all S35 Film and Digital cameras – full frame 5K format of Epic among others.

Aren't these just the two big Optimo's with a mild teleconvertor integrated so as to magnify the existing focal range to fit the sensor complete with a proportional amount of light loss?

Yes, just like the Optimo DP 16 mm X 42 mm is a Thales Angenieux Optimo 15 mm X 40 mm!

Here is a New Optimo Servo Unit which provides control of Zoom and Iris. Focus control will only be available with specific versions. Servo Unit also allows communication with certain cameras such as the capability of remote iris position control. It works in the Compatible with lightweight Optimo line : Optimo 45-120, Optimo 28-76, Optimo 15-40 for Film and Digital cinema, Optimo DP 16-42 and Optimo DP 30-80 for Digital Cinema. http://www.angenieux.com/file/datasheets/cinema/pdf_Catalogue_2011-2012/servo-unit4.pdf

This implies they are DP versions and hence cheaper, I can't say for certain, but I don't think these are likely to be cheaper versions of the originals, just modified versions to provide a larger coverage. I desperately hope I am wrong.

There are two sections on their web page, the Film Zoom Lenses, and the Digital Zoom lenses, I would imagine that a Film Zoom is slightly different in quality to a Digital Section; just my theory! In addition, the following statement appears on these two lenses, which are found in the Film Section “Superior optical performance rivaling prime lenses at equivalent focal lengths”

Any ideas of what the Optimo 19.5 – 94mm will be going for?

I asked the US distributors today, at Manios Digital, and then again at Band Pro and both told me the Optimo 19.5-94 would be in the $65-69K range WITHOUT the zoom grip! Availability at the earliest would be late Q4, 2012.

The zoom servo handgrip does not mount to that lens.

All this speculation whether the new Angenieux Optimo Zoom Lenses would work with the New Dragon Sensor made me revisit my thinking with a little more thought.

First this is just SPECULATION on my part, but fairly well educated, from a filmmakers POV. If I were to use the OLD 30mm X 15 mm Image Size of the 5K Sensor, then its stand to reason that the NEW Sensor of 6K 30 mm X 15.8 mm Sensor Size would have an Image Circle of 32 mm; EPIC 6K (27.7 x 2 7.7) + (15.8 x 15.8) =1016.93 √1016.93 = 31.8893, it’s actually slightly smaller because it’s really not 15.8 mm tall but slightly less. There is no good reason why the need for part of the Sensor Image area would also be required by the NEW sensor, by how much only Jim and Gramme know at this time.

This would also allow for having a true 1:85.1 Aspect Ratio without cutting the sides of the frame; this would have the added benefits of wide lens to make the image wider and so forth. On the two Angenieux Optimo lenses they are both use an extender of 1.16x; that’s from the original Image Circle of 28 mm for the 4.7x, and 30 mm for the 12x; Thus the; 19.5 mm X 94 mm - 4.7x with 1.16 Image Extender T2.6- 32.48 Ø, Approximately $70,000.00; and the 28 mm X 340 mm - 12x with 1.16 Image Extender - 34.8 Ø T3.2, Approximately $75,000.00.

Anyhow that’s my OPINION; we’ll have wait and see when Jim decides to publish the final size, and how much of cut off the 30 mm X 15.8 mm frame size actually occurs. See how the extra pixels are squeeze into the new frame size of 30mm X 15.8 mm!

Jim already said that the pixel size is 5 microns that would give 6000x3160 pixels total count for 30x15.8mm sensor.
I love even numbers...

Akash, yes, it’s for sale the lens is approximately $70,000.00, look at my last post in the Lens Test. How the weather in Nepal? In Costa Rica is warm today. I’m not sure how the Private message works. Humberto

Got a call that my 19.5-94 just came in. But now I have slightly cold feet... not sure the world wants this lens...
Anyone have an opinion? Any rental houses out there that need one for a show?
Cheers,
Harry
