Wow they really liked D9... good year for sci-fi

Yes..Academy did like D9 :emote_popcorn:

10 or 20 years ago it would have been relegated to the Sci-Fi ghetto
and gotten 1 nom. for FX...but things have changed alot.

Plus in terms of movies the Academy used to award..the so called
prestige pictures that usually involved social commentary mixed
with a certain historical scope..think Driving Miss Daisy or Shakespeare
in Love. Well for the most part those films just don't exist anymore.
Then think of how many end of the world..apocalyptic..vampire
films that have come out in the last 4 months alone.

District 9 combined social commentary w/ it's Sci-Fi blockbuster status
so it was a good fit for the awards whereas other ones were not.

It's a time to celebrate in RED Headquarters and to all worldwide REDUsers:

Count on it ;-)

Your camera is 'the' indie camera by excellence. This is just the beginning...

Scarlet will bring them out more than any other camera ever. My guess, no(thing) difficult to come up with, though.

Let's also note that Best Picture went to a movie shot in Super-16, which is also a historical landmark of a sort, though not necessarily relevant here on RedUser. And Best Cinematography went to an all-digital movie with portions shot on Sony HD video.

Congrats to Red, I'm looking forward to seeing the Best Foreign Language Film winner. The clips looked gorgeous.

David,

Aside the RED shirt, «The White Ribbon» by Michael Haneke is from another stratosphere (that B&W Christian Friedel/Leonie Benesch couple will stay for years) and had been more fair to see it yesterday than from Isabelle Hupert hands last May.

However, it is a good example of why RED should be seen as a camera company for indies than for anyone else. This award has been ours too and means a lot.

E. :-)

Under the story's POV, there's a brainy midpoint -- it is their job (Academy's) to pay attention to these things too right? ;-) where it is possible to see the talent of Juan José Campanella as writer/director. Besides, from day one. Beyond to have been editor, producer and actor along his career as well. Sharing different departments in his own movies which easily granted him his indie degree :-) therefore, to RED the nick of indies' camera.

The fact of having that Michael Haneke's work in competition just places this iberian (sorry folks to say it rather than spanish but if I am not spanish, I can't say the same about the first one) co-production in a brighter ballpark or rank.

One of the most beautiful sequences ever shot so far on RED (but could be and has been shot on film before) is also part of this «El secreto de sus ojos», on the other hand, the keenness one where the digital age is comprehended. In a train station and in a soccer stadium (it could be the World Cup '78), respectively.
