  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Two low budget Academy Awards Contenders, are there others?

What do the two films have in common? BOSW is an outstanding drama whereas Obama's America is a right wing propaganda docu made by an opportunistic nut case Dinesh D'Souza.

I wasn't happy with Obama's America 2016. It completely failed to address Obama's plans to create a clone army. I would have liked to have seen Dinesh address Obama's uncle's cloning background and experiments in super-soldier technology while director of Hitler's eugenics program.

Terrible sound throughout, too. The message is one thing, but documentaries with a lot of talking heads have got to hire better people to get non-distorted dialogue.

The most surprising low budget feature to get Academy nomination (and award) in the last handful of years was, for me, "Once". Shot with an HDV camera, it was a film with a simple story, an immense heart and a very, very good "singer songwriter" indie soundtrack. It beat a DISNEY musical in the best original soundtrack category- that's no easy feat. If I recall correctly, I don't know if I saw this in the making of or read it somewhere, that they had to go leaps and bounds to get what was, for them, a big budget shot, which was their only "Crane shot" (which was not done with a proper crane). I remember how they cut them of in the Oscar's presentation, but John Stewart came back and gave them the time they deserved in the spotlight. One of the most surprising moments at the Oscars of these last few years, for me...

Heh heh heh
