What are the hurdles when shooting a movie with two different types of cameras? How hard is it to match up the footage in post?

the hurdle is lighting a scene for two different angles.

*edit.. my bad... two different TYPES of camera... well.. that one is particular to the specifics.

But what about the quality of the footage? Won't it be very different?

i.e. HVX200 vs. RED ONE?

For example...

Let's say I shot all of my dialogue and action with the RED ONE, and all of my sex scenes with the HVX200. Would that look peculiar?

My answer is - ask yourself why your getting a RED and not a second HVX200? Then think of what the "matching up" hurdles would be. It's not harder then that.

I'm getting a RED because I want the best quality and the look of film without messing around with 35mm adapters.

The HVX200 is great, but It's definitely not comparable to the RED quality-wise.

However, I don't think it will be feasible to shoot a sex scene with a manual focus.

I have to say I've come to love your postings and by now think you're some of the guys out there having a laugh.

Now if your to lazy to pull or 2 proud 2 have team members on your shoot I don't think you should get this camera.

The differences between these cameras will be quite noticeable and I only suggest shooting it that way if you want it to be an actual feature, as in style.

As for focusing there's no way around it - it has to be done. Crawl to the cross and realize that it's easier to hire a guy that will do it for you. I bet there's a few fully capable ones that would do it for you for a reasonable price hahahahaha.

No seriously, I was just kidding about the team. I will have a crew on my project.

I just want to know what troubles are going to arise for me when I shoot with two different style cameras. That's all...

They're not going to match, final. It's two completely different formats, as wide apart as you can imagine.

If you can live with the difference is a completely different thing.

People say "Wanted" was shot with RED AND other cameras... is that movie's footage not going to match?

That's RED vs. 35 mm. And that's much closer than RED vs. HVX.

this is clever question thread that let me request this
IS IT possible to have that option (copying camera settings )
on CF card then reinstall this settings to different camera ?
i think this involved with up coming RedTools .??

This will be a future feature of the RED ONE. But the SD card will be the preferred medium for that.

It's hard to say how difficult it will be. Even two cameras of the same make and model often have differences. You really need to shoot tests and look at the footage side by side to see how they look, and how you want to deal with the differences.

As for your reasoning... There's no place for auto-focus in something like that anyway. In a sex scene (which typically is probably a bit dark and moody anyway) having the auto focus 'hunt' is going to be unpleasant. Auto focus is not suitable for that sort of use (and not suitable for many uses at all) - push-auto might be different, but still not ideal especially during recording.

Shoot with a wide lens and a high aperture if you're really worried, you'll get deeper depth of field, and have less chance of something slipping out of focus.

I think you're talking about a feature sex scene, were it's to be moody and magical. I think that these sex scenes are going to be a little more explicit then that and the lighting will be set to reveal as much as possible

As for the "Look" setting that will come up with SD card. It will only work with another RED camera, but it's and interesting view to wonder if it can stretch further then that.

I dont get that... Why do companies use the SD card for data settings, but capture onto the CF card? why not just use capture and settings on the same card? (or same format). Is it to differentiate?

why? what are you doing with the other hand?

hehe. I shoot adult movies. (Porn, if you will) Auto-focus is good because I move around constantly and don't think the RED would be a good camera to use to shoot a sex scene (of the OTHER Hollywood kind)
