  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TVLogic 10bit LED BL display

Specs are not the same on the 242. Less HD-SDI inputs, no dual link option, different contrast ratio, no scopes, and maybe something else I'm missing.

The 245 looks nice. Mark, you won't possibly have the 241 and the 245 side by side will you? If you do, I'd be curious to see them.

Contrast ratio is 800:1 on the 242 and 1000:1 on the LQM-241. The original 241 had 800:1 contrast ratio.

The original 241 and I assume the new one dither the 10 bits to 8 bit. I would be very surprised if they were marketing a 10 bit display without it being the real deal. They have been very open about their dithering process and it's pretty good. So I would think that if they made the jump to 10bit, it's a true 10 bit.

Actually, looking over my specs on my LVM-241W, it says it's 1000:1. So, perhaps they have changed things on that model now.

I just ordered a a 242 so I can side by side that with 241 - but I was told colorometry is exactly the same - the 241 has a genem chip for SD scaling - so LESS aliasing when stopping on interlaced SD footage - but for progressive HD - I have been told repeatedly exactly the the exclusion of scope - and for the price difference you are WAY, WAY better off paying a little more and buying a Leader LV 7700 rasterizer IMHO - I will try to get my TV Logic guy to post on this thread - emailing him now -

TVLogic

To all interested in TVLogic:

I am the Northeast reseller for TVLogic. Some of you may have already visited my site www.vidkey.com where they can download specs and pricing for all TVLogic and Klein products. As far as 241WL's, they are great LCD CCFL monitors that are competitively priced. I have demo units in NY and we have sold scores throughout NY facilities. The XVM245 will be available in December-January and I will have a demo at that time. The monitor is ready except for the latest firmware that will incorporate the 3D LUTs with selectable colorspaces. This monitor is 24" LED backlit 10 bit native and uses the Dell Dream panel. Final pricing will be determined by whether they have the 3gig inputs optional or not ($12-14k depending). You can contact me off-list through the website info if interested (unless the moderators here say it is OK to discuss features on-list). Excuse the sales pitch and I won't intrude further.

A few other points:

The contrast is higher on the 241WL (better than 900:1) than the 240 or original 241. The panels are 8 bit with 10 bit dithering.
The 242 is great for single link HD only applications where the Gennum chipset is not put to advantage.
The 241 and 242 are the same LG panel.
The 242 does not have on board scopes.

dave,

The manual for my 241W says 1000:1 contrast ratio. Are you referring to an older model?

I thought Dell doesn't make its own panels??

Dave, welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks for coming on Dave, appreciate all the info.

Really look forward to seeing the 10bit display.

If the 242 241 only miss the scale chip as you told me why the contrast difference ?

Also without the chip.. SD scaled to fit the display looks? bad? jagged? even possible?

I'm happy to loose interlaced option because we just don't do it.. ever.

Same timings as the ecinema Pro.. wonder if it's the same panel?

What I'd love to see in displays in the future (as some have them now) Scopes output port. ie you can have the scopes overlaid or there is a dvi/svga port out you can feed a cheap 17" with to display the scopes.

Stupid idea? just go for hardware like Mark says?

Nice to be here

Nice to be here

Thank you for the welcome. As far as RED is concerned, I'm here to get my education from the people here on this amazing system. So expect me to ask questions.

Re: TVLogic

On the 245, I believe that would be the Dell 2408 DreamColor PVA LED backlit panel. The Dell model is useless without an external 3D lut, a way to calibrate it's levels and gamma, and all the interfaces and features that make up a professional broadcast monitor.

Though the manual will state 1000:1, actual recently measured values on my Klein colorimeter on several of the new 241WL LG panels (without ND filter) approach that, but are a little less. I was just being conservative. Please remember every serial # and batch of panels are unique and that the backlight tubes and circuitry also vary. This applies to all LCD panels. Most of these variations in panels are equalized out in calibration.

As far as scaling is concerned, the non-Gennum chip will not antialias as well particularly with motion when scaling and deinterlacing. So some mild jaggies on fine detail in some circumstances. It is very equivalent to those other two Japanese brands that are in the same price range that you might be familiar with. The "2 series" is TVLogic's answer to those competive models. What you get with TVLogic are better panels, better user inteface, and better service. For applications that are HD progressive only, there is no visual difference between the 1 and 2 series at a savings of many thousands of dollars.

The DVI interface is a dual link DVI-I input only. They would have to add electronics and a DVI output to implement your idea but I'd be happy to pass it along. I can say that in the 4 years I have been associated with TVLogic that I have seen many user suggestions implemented. They are a company that is solely focused on producing broadcast quality displays, and are constantly engineering new features and implementing them in regular firmware updates.

Im very interested in this monitor. For what its worth I use the 7" TVLogic's, they are great monitors and have good build quality. The company have always been very helpful for support. The scopes in the small units are very helpful.

I was informed at the end of this week that the currently shipping panel on the TVLogic LVM-242 is not the same as the 241WL at the present time. The shipping panel does not have the reduced black shift and is lower contrast than the 241WL. I'll update this thread if the situation changes but I wanted to give out the most accurate information.
