Hi everyone,

Juste received my EF Motion Mount. Maybe it's a silly question but I was wondering if it was possible to turn off the ND Filter on the camera because it's locked on 1/3.03 in minimum and I lose 1.60 stops.

I didn't found anything on the operation guide so if somebody knows if it's possible to use the Motion Mount without a minimum ND filter, could be great!

Thank you!

Unfortunately not possible.

The light loss is inevitable, there is no way to have the motion mount on the camera without having over a stop of light loss... this and the fact that the motion mount acts a little weird when shooting wide open, is why many shooters have shied away from it. My greatest wish from red is to figure out how to implement a global shutter (I don't even care about the internal ND's by now) without affecting the camera's sensitivity, color, and dynamic range.

Unfortunately, because of the glass built into the mount, the motion mount is only really useable in situations where you are going to ND anyways. (Basically just daylight exteriors.)

However, a lot of times I wish I had one because I would love to lose the weight of the matte box and the physical filters when doing gimbal/car mount stuff outside.

The filter is built into the mount, although it is electronic, its impossible to just turn it off
