I'm thinking about purchasing a Scarlet this week but the audio has me confused. I want to record all my main audio into the Scarlet. The inputs are different than what I'm a custom to since every camera I have used has had XLR inputs. I've been reading a lot that the camera wasn't designed for recording main audio and should be used for scratch track only. I don't want to record on an external recorder and sync it up later. Is this wrong info I'm reading? How do you guys connect wireless systems to your Scarlet? My main purpose for the camera will be commercials and News image Promos.

The easy bulit-in solution is the two inputs on the front of camera for your audio. All you need to record is one or two RED XLR-MINI adapter cable... There are other options, but the Red ones work great. The better solution is to add the PRO I/O module to the camera, as it has full size XLR jacks, giving yo a total of 4 channels of audio... the two front MINI jacks, and the two rear XLR jacks. The main reason I would suggest the Pro I/O is that the MINI jacks have no locking mechanism, and so the plugs can twist... I usually attach them and tape them off when shooting... not ideal, but the results are all I care about, and it works.
Hope this helps,
CK

Another great solution is the A-Box, which gives full XLR from the balanced 1/8". Can't post a link or manufacturer as they aren't a sponsor, but do a google search.

The good thing about the Scarlet/Epic is that the inputs are fully balanced and can sound great if you get the settings right. Red is improving the audio experience all the time. On the Red One it also started out as scratch-track only but quickly became world class and extremely reliable.

I use the Epic/Scarlet's audio for "real" work all the time. Just takes a bit of trial and error to get your specific set up sounding its best.
