Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
i like trumbull alot... i think 'hypercinema' is not a happy word, but i'm really glad he's thinking about providing technological paths to advance the storytelling experience. i'll be happy when he's a little less vague about it. he probably gets a little bogged down with tech, but that simply needs to be balanced out by artistic creators.
Thanks for sharing this. I've always been a big fan of his FX work. I remember seeing one of his companies demonstrations here in the DC area back in the 1980s. I recall it being 70mm at 72fps or something like that. The subject of the film was less impressive than the tech. I seem to recall dune buggies chasing a giant beach ball around. I can say that it was certainly the best looking footage of that particular subject that I've ever seen.
Doug is a tech genius & one hell of a great person! I helped shoot his short film mentioned in the article. Lets just say the daileys were pretty amazing to look at
Mostly he is talking about changing the frame rate dynamically on any frame, pixel, object or character throughout a movie. This makes a lot of sense considering 24p works perfectly for most scenes and higher frame rates are really necessary for other scenes or objects.
