Is it true that you are not allowed to officially sell your RED camera for a year or 2 after initial purchase? Due to the fact you have to transfer the title or something so the buyer can have a bomb squad rep? Forgive me for my ignorance but I feel like I've read that somewhere here on reduser.

I plan to upgrade to Scarlet W sometime after I've spent some time and had some fun with my Red Raven and although I'm not 100% sure I would even sell my Raven to upgrade to Scarlet W, but I would like to know if it's a possibility.

Again, new to Red sorry if this is a stupid question.

As far as I know, you can sell it anytime. Transfer of ownership does cost I think about $500 (usually the buyer pays). The incentive for them buying used is that they aren't paying for taxes (as with a new camera) and your camera will be priced lower accordingly to how many hours it has and wear and tear. They can opt to not go the owner transfer route but Red does look over the camera and ensures all is working when paying for the transfer (thus eliminating the problem if the buyer claims it's not working while you say you gave them a fully functional camera). No one wants that jar of jam.

Those are the rules for the educational program. They don't want teachers or students buying the cameras or accessories at a discount and turning around and selling them.

Oh okay, makes sense now. I will be purchasing using the educational program though, so I guess when ever I do get a Scarlet W I'll be having a family of 2. Raven stays.

Isn't it like two months as a rule?

Besides the educational discount, there is one other situation when RED imposes conditions on the resale of a camera.
In this case - when upgrading from Dragon to Weapon:

You may not trade, sell, convey or otherwise transfer ownership of your DRAGON BRAIN to any third party. You may not trade, sell convey or otherwise transfer ownership of your WEAPON BRAIN for a period of ninety (90) days after delivery of the WEAPON BRAIN. These limitations must be strictly observed. If you fail to abide by these terms, RED may charge you the full price of the WEAPON BRAIN without credit for your DRAGON BRAIN, minus $1. You agree that this paragraph is reasonable and agree to abide by it. You also agree to pay all costs related to enforcement of this term, including attorney's fees, court costs, and collection costs.

(From the terms and conditions that you sign)

To me, this made a lot of business sense - and it is more than fair. RED is providing us with the opportunity to upgrade our cameras not to flip them into the market, but to use them for their intended purpose.

Do you know the actual duration of time you can not sell?
