L&T isn't working for B16 yet so I brought the files in through "Import--Folder". When dropping clip into the sequence everything is fine with the P & M proxies. Thumbnails in the sequence, viewer and canvas, exports all look right.

However, when using the H or F proxies my thumbnails and exports look like the attached file. The canvas and viewer pictures look correct. This same problem exists in SD, HD, and ProRez sequences with 2k, 3k 4k 2:1, 2k, 3k 4k 16:9. Have tried exporting through QT conversion and compressor with same results. Problem exists on my MacPro system as well. 3 GHz Quad Core, 6GB RAM.

Settings are RT Unlimited, High Prescison YUV, all that is recommended. I haven't seen this problem mentioned anywhere in my searches. Am I missing something obvious?

For B16 you'll need to be on the latest QT component (v 3) from RED and I think going to FCP6.03 may help.

Do the proxies play in QT OK? If not then you need this codec upgrade.

I am running all of the latest software. I was originally using QT 7.5 and FCP 6.0.4. That was where I first encountered the problem. I thought the issue might be QT 7.5, so I downgraded both FCP and QT to the above versions hoping that would solve the problem. It didn't.

Everything plays in Quicktime, RA and RC just fine. It is only when inserted into a sequence in FCP that this happens. Even then it only appears in the thumbnail of the clip in the sequence. In the canvas and viewer the clip appears normal, but when I export I get the same look.

We're getting the same look when brought into compressor as well. Pretty much same computer setup. I'm on location so haven't been able to try it out on a bigger system yet.

I saw this in compressor and decided to see if it would render out okay, anyway - it did! I rendered the 4K & 2K proxies to ProRes 422HQ

I've also found that if I add a filter to the footage in Final Cut, the footage goes back to looking normal.

And, yes, I have upgraded to the latest of everything and like everyone else, this hasn't solved the problem.

Great! That's good to know, I'll give it a try in compressor again.

Thanks

hello there,

i had same problem with footage few days ago. the solution i used was here:

http://www.squared5.com/

worked fast and flawlessly.

you can convert any _h.mov from your media in a batch process to prores, and use in FCP. (i didn't test it with _F.mov, but since this works with _H.mov...)

no artefacts. nice convertions.

One of the best free software ever. I love that program. I'm testing with it right now with some Build 16 footage.

So far using _F.mov proxy I have been able to successfully output to DVCPro HD 720. ProRes had an artifact where on the left side of the picture there is a box with weird lines.

That sounds like a reasonable fix for now.

I've never used streamclip to do batches to prores. Would you mind giving a brief overview of your workflow on this?

to slomocean: batch - how to do it

to slomocean: batch - how to do it

1. open mpeg streamclip.
2. there is LIST option in the main menu. click on it
3. pop up menu opens. click BATCH LIST
4. batch list window pops up.
5. click on ADD FILES
6. another window pops up.
7. choose proper drive where you have your r3d files with .mov proxies
8. on the top right corner there is search frame.
9. type in search criteria (i.e. _H.mov or _M.mov)
10. wait a while. list of all (i.e.) _H.mov files will shortly shows.
11. select as many as you need (all, a few, anything you need...)
12. button "TO BATCH" is active now. click it.
13. window "choose a task" pops up. choose what you need (i.e. "export to QT")
14. another window pops up: "choose DESTINATION FOLDER". choose folder you need/want or create new one by clicking "NEW FOLDER" button.
15. ANOTHER... window pops up. "COMPRESSION"
16. choose PRORES 422; slide quality bar to 100%
17. click "TO BATCH" button - (it's far down - right)
18. ANOTHER window pops up - "BATCH LIST"
19. press "GO"
20. wait until process is done. if done - you will see status "completed" - from the right side of the each processed clip.
21. close that window
22. close mpeg streamclip
23. done!

it looks complicated, but it's not. REALLY.
try to experiment with _p.mov or _M.mov files, since they are smallest after the processing and processing is fastest.

after little experimenting - you are ready to do REAL batch with _H.mov or _F.mov files.

i personally never tried _F.mov - so i am not sure is everything ok with these files after converting.

but, anyhow - hope this is clear for you.
if you need MORE PRECISE (i hope not :)) info - send me P.M. and will send you screen grabs of whole workflow.

all the best,

filip

filip, have you tried going to ProRes yet? With _F proxy I was able to go to dvcpro hd, but ProRes had a problem.

i did not try with _F.mov. highest i try was _H.mov. and this was ok with prores.

will try with _F.mov today, and tell you my results. in my case all proxies from _P to _H are ok when converting to prores.

I tried with _F.mov files and got two strange horizontal lines running through my picture. Have tried several different variations of setting with the same result. When I drop it down to the _H files it works fine. Any one else experiencing this?

Thanks for the reports, this is a known issue. Working on a fix to this as we speak!

Did we ever get a fix for this? Rob or anyone else?

I tried exporting the F files with Streamclip and get this weird line issue. It's like it's an offset of somekind. Works fine with the H files, but often I need the F files if I'm shooting 3K, as it plays nicely with HD. Any ideas? Is this a QT redcode issue, a slipstream one? I would love for somebody to figure out a way for this to work. Oh, this was with footage shot with build 16 3.2 if that helps.
