I bought my Trost slider a year ago and it has been sitting in my basement since.

I took it out recently for a shoot, and noticed that the silver part of the unit where the slider glides through started oxidizing in different locations, causing jerky movements.

Does anyone else have a similar issue, and know a way to fix this? Thanks!

Thanks guys. Gabe from Trost recommended that I clean the rust by using Scotch Brite 7445. Unfortunately, this product is hard to find in Canada. I've asked Gabe for another recommendation.

We have had bad rust issues with our Trost sliders. We experienced this within weeks of getting them here in Oz and it went from the smoothest slider I'd ever used to the most expensive bumpy slider I'd ever used.

Gabe has offered to refund, replace etc. but we just haven't got around to sending back.

He was super helpful and the service is great, but to have to use a steel wool on a product that costs that much is bit rich I think. Can withstand the weight of a car, can't stay free of rust. :)

Is it the shiny steel rails that are rusting? I thought those were replaceable?

The website has photos of these being used in the snow and I was under the impression that they are essentially indestructible. Does the latest m-model have rust issues? Or is this limited to just a few individual sliders?

I know right, I was a bit taken aback by that. Not only in the snow, but in the polar regions - wet, cold & salty. They wouldn't last long out there I fear, but it's a good photo opportunity. :)

Apparently they have decreased it's susceptibility to rust Gabe said, but it would appear that it's not completely fixed in the new sliders either. He did not come out and say "The rust issue has been resolved and will no longer affect the sliders."

They offered to replace my rails - I have not been able to take them up on that as yet.

I had the same problem on my slider as well. Very disappointing. Makes a huge difference to the smoothness.
I used a mixture of techniques to get rid of the rust / corrosion. Mainly a Brillo pad that didn't scratch the surface but did enough to remove the rust. The problem is, if you leave it too long then it eats into the metal too far and is very hard to smooth out. After I removed as much as I could I then lubricated the rails to protect from further problems. I haven't had any problems since doing this.

dont forget that there is a lifetime warranty on this product. So you can get the rails replaced with the newer rail which is meant to have a bit of improvement.
Gabe has been really helpful and said he would replace the rails. The problem for me is the expensive cost of shipping it back to the US.
So I currently haven't been able to send back.

The rails are user replaceable aren't they? Just send the rails.

Joseph,

Gabe is right, of course... :)

You can actually get them from Amazon, and they'll ship them over easy, it's really cheap to get a full box, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EW7M5S2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01

If you can't do this either, then PM me and I'll send over few shits of it, I have a Box of them, but you need to be quick about it as I am to leave the country for the next several months...
